If you may recall, ESPN was suing OSU over records release and OSU was citing FERPA over refusing to release them

Today, many educational socities came out in support of Ohio State's side on the issue and the Department of Justice came out against ESPN's argument (although techically not issuing a stance in favor of OSU).

“The court in this case should ‘sing Ohio's praise’ in recognition of the exemplary way in which the university has heeded its obligations under both FERPA and the Ohio Public Records Law,” they wrote, quoting the opening line of the OSU alma mater.

I think it's hilarious that ESPN says FERPA does not apply because of "nonacademic improprieties". Yeah, because NCAA rules trump Federal Law

Funny how "nonacademic improprieties" didn't cause a problem with burying a story on a Big East program. ;)

I said back in January that 2011 was going to be the year that college sports "jumps the shark". Looks as if that prediction is going to be right on.

ESPN is only concerned that kids don't sell their own stuff for tattoos or get a little extra in their paychecks for part-time jobs.

Like Paterno and PSU, they don't care if a pedophile is allowed to rape kids, though. No need to fight like hell for that story...

Apparently ESPN isn't exactly the most willing organization when it comes to sharing documents either.
