To be considered for an invite to this "all-star" preview, do you have to be a District qualifier? Anybody know?
Thanks.

Its a coaches association invite I believe. Whoever they think is worthy. No real criteria I think.said_aouita;985794 wrote:To be considered for an invite to this "all-star" preview, do you have to be a District qualifier? Anybody know?

Coaches nominate any wrestlers they feel worthy. Top 5 at districts are automatically in. 20 of the 37 particpants this year are district placers at a minimum, which is down a bit from years past.

Wadkins (TRI) v. Thompson (MAD) is another match-up of state qualifiers.
Stanely (WAY) v. Ramage (WR) will be a nice bout pitting real talented young wrestlers against each other.
Due to football playoffs & other conflicts...2 state placers, a qualifier & district placer were unable to compete.

Zane is #2 & Zack is #8 out of the 19 bouts right now...of course things could change if there are any late scratches

Yes he did...this is not uncommon if you have a few talented kids in the same weight area and need a quality macth-up....last year, i think, Clint Endicott wrested twice.Red Rum;992484 wrote:Beast-

Beam was 4th at State last year, O'neill was 7th at state and I think Montgomery went 1-2 at the state tournament.

Good event. Hold your breath moment, After Zane went up quick 5-0 in the 1st period he trys to force a hip toss double over hook throw to his own back... Jacob caught him...That got a big reaction from the crowd! All for fun, well run, no one got hurt, it was nice seeing all the locals in the area and their parents and coaches! Good luck let the season begin this weekend!

Interesting, I remembered Endicott going twice last year but I wrote it off as somebody probably scratched and he stepped in. Had no idea it was planned.1_beast;992491 wrote:Yes he did...this is not uncommon if you have a few talented kids in the same weight area and need a quality macth-up....last year, i think, Clint Endicott wrested twice.

Wrestling two 1-1-1 periods a hour and a half apart is no big deal. Also these matches over all are wrestled way slow and cautious over all. Major to the advantage of a weaker wrestler with no stalling and only 60 second goes. Hang on and keep it close, a few matches were track meets where one kid was trying to "Catch " the other. More of a good wrestling community reunion to get aquatinted again and wish everybody the best. Also a good event for AShland to introduce its self to the surrounding athletes and parents. Nice low key All Star event I think very well run.

Alls I know is the Nelson twins might have been the most focused & intense wrestlers I've seen before the preview when I took the participants back in the AU wrestling room to talk to them. Both their matches were fun to watch...they are going to be nightmares again for alot of kids.
