... and he fails miserably at tOSU?

I'm on the bandwagon here, too. I want to see him in scarlet and grey. I was just reading this stuff on Meyer and got to thinking what Columbus would be like if he came in and did nothing.

Would it be like Michigan getting Rich Rod? Or would it be worse??

What?

Urban Myer is a proven commodity. He was successful in BG, Utah, and won national titles in Florida.

Rich Rod did none of that.

What I mean is, Rich Rod was supposed to be the sh*t at Michigan. Having had the success he did for a couple of years with his open offense in WV and all, he was supposed to turn Michigan around.

I'm not comparing their pasts as much as the hype.

I don't see him failing. As stated, he's been successful at every stop and OSU has so many built-in advantages it's hard to imagine a good coach screwing it up there let alone a great one. People on here know I don't care for OSU (I just don't have to remind you with every other post nor do I feel the need to constantly troll like some on here tend to do when they hate a certain team) so I don't like saying this but I do think he wins a 'chip there in the near future.

The strange thing will be seeing some OSU fans who criticized Urb at every opportunity start singing his praises. That kinda thing isn't unique to the OSU fan base though as I think most fans would do an about-face in a similar situation. Some who were overly critical and spoke with such conviction when disapproving of how he ran his program (mostly off the field) at UF will look pretty hypocritical.

He won't fail. He's a great recruiter and a great coach. He will hire a great staff and inherits good talent.

That is debatable, most of my Clemson friends weren't sorry to see him go, and having a successful offense against lousy competition isn't a recipe for success.

Meyer is a known brand, that has performed at both the mid-major and major conference levels.

I'm not sure your question is very clear.

If he "failed miserably" he would be let go. Is that "worse than Michigan"? Seems the same to me.

Like most others, however, I don't see him "failing miserably" in Columbus.

Failing miserably is all about perspective. For example, I think Fickell has failed though not miserably. Wins against Wiscy and Illinois show he has some capacity but losses to Nebraska and piss poor play the last two weeks show he's not consistent at getting the guys to play hard regularly.

Was Coop "miserable" for his inability to beat UM? Was Earle miserable for going 9-3 regularly?

I think only hindsight will allow judgement, and I think were he to get the gig expectations will be extremely high.

Nick Saban is the only college coach to win a National title at a second school in the past like 50 years I think I heard the stat as being recently.

It seems like it would be a slam dunk, but historically it seems that title winning coaches have had a hard time sealing the deal at new schools when they move on.

Either way I don't think Meyer is at OSU for more than 5-6 years, because if he does win another national title he will move on to the NFL at some point, as guys like him will always have that itch to see if it translates once they have achieved everything possible on the college level. He is still young enough that that door will be open for him for another decade.

It'll be tougher to win in the B1G when you have rules to follow and you can't just recruit every thug off the street. The guy can coach, but can he bring in talent that will qualify both on and off the field? That remains to be seen.

Rich Rod wasn't hyped by many, except for Michigan fans and even some of them were skeptical. The hype Meyer will receive from, not only OSU fans, but the nation will be 5X what RR got. Meyer has won 2 national titles and was successful at every stop he had. RR was successful in the Big Least. Meyer was successful in the SEC. You see the difference?

Will Meyer do what he did at Florida at OSU? We'll see. Will he dominate? No. Is there any chance he completely tanks like Rich Rod? Absolutely zero chance. It simply won't happen.

I personally think Ohio State would be a better job than Florida. Some makes the argument that he wouldn't get the same Florida talent. I say he also wouldn't have to compete with Miami (FL) and Florida State for those players. Plus I think more kids are aware of the tradition of OSU rather than Florida. I think this job fits him real well. Not only Ohio State has the ability to recruit itself but he is a good recruit as well.

The wins were because of the fact that this team has raw talent. It wasn't coaching. Same with the games we lost. The team wasn't coached well, it's a bunch of super talented young guys that went out there and played. It reminds me a lot of "street ball" in football. Having players out of the lineup and then in it halfway through the season and changing the scheme every time one of those players returned has got to be taxing on a team of inexperienced players.

The team is good. Damn good. They need guidance and leadership. And seeing as how we had captains sitting out due to suspension, this team was like the blind leading the blind as far as experience goes.

I feel like there are a lot of good things to come to tOSU. Regardless of whether or not we get Meyer.
