Looking at getting the wife a tablet for Christmas. I have looked at the Samsung Galaxy, the iPad, and a few others. Any recommendations?

Don't buy an iPad unless you buy two, so you'll have something when the first one breaks.

The iPad blows everything else out of the water, but pricey. I've also heard the Nook is nice.

FWIW: Tablets aren't as great as everyone makes them out to be.

This.

Also, the Toshiba thrive is a nice alternative that has been on sale several times recently for 310

We have two and they both work fine. Did yours break on you?

Id recommend getting the 3G. We did on one and just have wifi on the other and I hate not being able to take it places; can only use it at home or where there's wifi.

Sleeper just hates all things Apple. A buddy of mine has been searching for weeks for a $60 Android tablet from Big Lots. Seems pretty legit

Did you ever think that maybe it's the owner and not the product?

I've never had any other issues with any other companies. Even my car has never had a problem. Apple sells the myth of quality rather than actual quality.

I love my iPad, but I also "need" it for work, in other words it helps me do my job better. I dont really use games or stream or anything. Dont use it as a laptop, but at the same time when I go somewhere out of town it is great to just pack the iPad and not the Laptop. Also hold the charge for a weekend trip where my Laptop lasts less than 2 hrs anymore.

I'm using HBO GO right now on my iPad and love it. Not long from now, once AT&T gets the kinks out, I'll be watching my cable TV on my iPad from anywhere I want. The app lets you manage your DVR on it as well. It's like you're sitting in front of your TV.

Use it while actually sitting in front of your tv. It'll be like sitting in front of your tv while sitting in front of your tv.
