I'll go to bat for him for what he did on the field and courts for OHS...but he does need to do some serious maturing. Most of us take pride in what we've become, not what we've been nearly 20 years ago.
His comments about current OHS athletics being "cursed" because he's not in the HOF showed his selfishness and ignorance....and is just plain dumb.
My hope is both he and Renauld get nominated next time. Then the ball is in their court. Can't say you've been slighted anymore, they accept or never get voted in again.
The damage has already been done hasn't it! It's a rather easy "out" to nominate either of them at this point, especially if one or both of them have said that they won't accept it. Was it "selfishness and Ignorance" that kept them from recieving the votes?
Seems to me it's a tongue-in-cheek gesture to say you tried to do the right thing after the fact and can now absolve yourself and the committee and lay blame at their feet as to whether or not they are to be voted in.
Understandably, Coach Smith's time at Orrville was much longer than Ray or Denson as he was the coach and they were students, (they can only do 4 years), but the back-to-back wins that are crowning achievements of Coach Smith's career were accomplished by far as a result of their skills and abilities. That, and the fact that you all are constantly bally-hooing and hoorahing Orrville's records and
RTR, I say again, it's a shame that they weren't nominated and inducted at their earliest eligibility just as I'm sure Coach Smith has been.
Also, what was the reason they weren't inducted on the first eligibility?
We are still waiting on an answer!
