Pretty awesome. I don't think they will ever be #1 or 2 though.

I was really surprised to read this. I didn't even think they would surpass the NHL, let alone the NBA.

Looks like the "nobody cares about soccer" crowd will have to think of something new.

Haha I went to edit my post to say something similar to that but for some reason it won't save... I'm sure they will find something else. Haters gonna hate.

The author mentions that Soccer stadiums are bigger than NBA arenas, but IMO, that doesn't matter...

People still have to show up, regardless of how big the venue is.

Hell, the Jake holds 42k+, but there were games with 9K this year

Yeah, the fact that they play in NFL stadiums ect probably has A LOT to do with this. If the NBA was played in arenas that size itd have just as many spectators im sure

According to wiki, 12/16 MLS teams (excluding the 2 expansion teams that both had excellent attendance) increased attendance this season.

Toronto FC attendance dropped by less than 200 and still averaged 20,267.
Philadelphia dropped from 19,254 to 18,259.
Chicago went from 15,814 to 14,274
Columbus was the biggest faller, from 14,642 to 12,185

Is there any truth to the rumor that the Crew may be looking to relocate?

No,not all of them. But they all play in stadiums. Stadiums which more than likely hold more than an NBA arena id guess

no, probably not. Unless they are playing in nfl stadiums they make their stadiums to sit in the 20,000 range.

But again, people still have to show up.

Attendance in the NBA is down. Teams aren't filling up their 20k arenas. Cleveland, LA, Chicago, and a couple others were the only ones consistently selling out last year. Other teams were below 80% for the year.

What's the price per ticket? NBA games are pricey.

Most of the teams have soccer specific stadiums now, which is different than when MLS first started. They typically hold between 20-25k. Question is, if there were 30 MLS teams, would this still hold true?

As a card carrying member of the "nobody cares about soccer crowd"...I'm calling BS on these stats. But i'm also a member of the "nobody misses the NBA crowd" too...so maybe its true. Either way "nobody cares about soccer."

Does the size of the stadium matter if the NBA isnt selling out? I dont know for sure if they are, but based on TV, it sure doesnt look like it (and last year was a good year in the eyes of the fans for the NBA). If they arent selling out a good portion of their stadiums, playing in "NFL" ones wouldnt matter.

I think this:
There's more good news for the domestic soccer league: MLS attendance is 10th-best internationally, ahead of the Scottish Premier League and England League Championship, among others.
Is just as exciting.

Sort of my thinking too. ESPN attendance says half of the NBA averaged less than 90% capacity, and 12 teams were under 85%.
