Anyone else do this before? I want to install it on my Evo 4G but the instructions I am finding seem to suck.

I did it.

I found step by step instructions on Phandroid in their forums.

Is it worth the effort?

I took it off. I was looking for better battery life mainly and I didn't notice any difference. It also caused my phone to freeze up on rare occasions...I had to take the battery off just to reboot it. I know there are a lot of people that swear by it though.

are you already rooted?

Instructions from XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297538

Very easy once you get root the first time and then realize how easy flashing different roms can be on android...

I have Cyanogenmod on my Thunderbolt, I think it's 7, and I have no issues with it at all. I like it and it helped my battery a lot from the stock settings. XDA is definitely the site to go to from what little I've seen.

justincredible: it would help if you posted the instructions you followed, that way we could find better ones.

Way too many steps. Just download unrevoked:
http://unrevoked.com/

Then go back to that wiki page and follow the "Method Via Rom Manager" at the bottom.

Unrevoked 3 or Unrevoked Forever?

Unrevoked 3 will root your phone.
Unrevoked forever will set the S-OFF buisness.

So do them both, in that order.

Cyanongenmod?

So, you're planning to replace us mods with super android cyborg future mods? As that's what I got from that name.

Some people are complaining about that. It looks like if you're running Gingerbread it might not work.

Try this one:
