This. As a Buckeye fan it's exciting, but let's see what happens in February.

Isn't that true with any team's recruiting process? Fact of the matter is that these kids (Agholor, Fowler, Spence, etc) never would have considered OSU is Urban wasn't the head coach. Of course one can't expect him to reel in all of these big names with 8 weeks to go, but it definitely shows the impact Urban will have on future classes. Doesn't surprise me that the Urban-doubters would be hesitant.

No doubt. I wasn't saying it as a negative.

Is this really a surprise that recruits are now turned on to OSU/Urban? The guy is regarded as one of the best, if not the best recruit/closer in the country. OSU, like a handful of others, recruit themselves. Add in a coach like Urban...and it could be scarey the talent he will bring in the next few years.

Fowler is a good one. Glad Urban is taking him away from the noles. Agholor is a Gator or Trojan, you will not change that.

Urban can bring in 25 NFL All Stars, but if he doesn't win multiple National Titles then it won't matter. This is Ohio State, championships are expected.

Taver Johnson on the recruiting trail

at Vandalia Butler high school today.....as OSU is pulling out all the stops in an effort to get Taylor Decker to give them a second look...

this tells us a few things:

1) recruiting territories are getting flipped around(Johnson is usually in Cleveland)--but right now, staff goes where the recruits are

2) Meyer is interviewing guys in Columbus right now---ie Mike Stoops

3) there is probably an under-classmen there(Nathan Martin FB/TE) that they are looking at

4) OSU has counted the number of Olinemen on the roster, and recognized a need

biggest problem isn't actually with the "numbers"---its with the number of guys on the roster that are in a position to contribute.....

quote to me was "how on earth do you not go hard after kids like Decker and Dodson?????"

previous staff wouldn't even return Decker's phone calls.......true story.....

Easy answer to above: Bollman. His "philosophy" of recruiting OL was as stupid as most of his play calls. What was worse, Tressel simply let him do it and keep the program on the edge of too little OL depth most of the time.

Thank God those days are over.

That's one thing I never understood. They've forgotten more football than I know. However, I always found it odd we had so many db's yet so little offensive linemen. Always thought we should have a few less db's and a few more beefers.

It's a conscious strategy to have low numbers on the o-line because those guys can do nothing but play o-line. DB's can switch to WR, maybe LB, and of course are more valuable on special teams. They are just much more versatile.

If you read the post above it's not a numbers problem as much as a quality problem right now. Many think OSU whiffed on last years o-line class with guys like Underwood, Carter, etc.

Cyrus Jones has decided to reconsider an offer from Ohio State after the Buckeyes hired Urban Meyer as their new football coach. Jones dropped West Virgnia from consideration but said Wednesday that Alabama, Auburn, Maryland and Virginia Tech remain in the running for his talents.

YES YES DO WANT

Further, here's a post on TOS regarding Decker's recruitment from the old staff (smh):
Someone send me this supposed quote from the VolleyBall coach on TOS regarding Decker (from VB's hghschool). How could Fickell allow this to happen if true?
"I never planned on telling the Decker recruiting story until he signed with where ever he went. With the staff changing, it is now OK to basically say.
What Nevada said is true. Refused to return calls, forgot to get back to him a few times, didn't know who his actual recruiter was, never actually gave him a phone number for one of the coaches........... it was unreal. When Brett B and Pat Fitz come to the building personally and OSU sent Greg Gillum, not even a real coach, then it tells you something."

I agree, but disagree as well. The staff recruited 12 guys (11 guys on roster :Longo transfer) from 07-11. Thus, I do believe it's a numbers issue. They may have enough guys for a 2-3 deep on the roster, but how many of them are walk-ons? Keep in mind they just recruited 4 guys in the frosh class, so the 11 really looks bad before them.

Urban called Cyrus Jones tonight. Urban told him he sees him fitting the role of Percy Harvin in his offense. Cyrus said he will "definitely get up to Ohio State." Also, they are "definitely back in his top schools." Looking at OSU hard.

He got at least 1, that prevents him from being a failure. Urban will need at least 3 or else he will be a failure.

I might be one of the few Buckeye fans who really doesn't give a shit about recruiting. Two words: Troy Smith.

That's fine, meyer wants kids to commit then talk to no one else. So can't blame this kid at all.

Its his loss. Winning isn't as big a deal with some kids as with others. Thankfully most talented kids like to win championships.

We'll see what happens on NSD. A lot of things can change between now and then, and if Meyer really wants a player, there's a pretty good chance he'll get him, regardless of what the player's saying now.
