The loss of Dwayne Stanford to Oregon didn't linger too long. Just a short time ago we were able to confirm that Lakeland (FL) WR Ricquan Southward made the switch from his Miami (FL) verbal commitment and gave the OSU staff his verbal pledge.
Southward, a 4-star recruit in the class of 2012, had been committed to the Hurricanes for a while, but with the NCAA looming and Urban Meyer on the way to Columbus, the south Florida stand out decided he wanted to don the Scarlet and Gray for the forthcoming years.
An official visit the weekend of the Penn State game seemed to seal the deal for the wide receiver, who is listed at 6-2/185. He was recruited primarily by Stan Drayton, who is expected to remain on Meyer's staff next season. In addition to OSU and Miami, Southward had interest from Ole Miss, USF, Florida State, Mississippi State, Maryland, Florida, Texas Tech, Georgia, and others.
The commitment of Southward may be the first sign of the Meyer effort. Have to tip your cap to Drayton and the rest of the staff for closing this one out, but it appears the news of Meyer emerging as head coach of OSU may have definitely helped out here. Southward becomes the 16th member of the class of 2012 and the fourth wide receiver, joining Mike Thomas, Frank Epitropolous, and Roger Lewis.

Also, most seem to think it's a forgone conclusion that Dunn will end up at tsun. The reaction by recruits to the Meyer news has been pretty positive though.

So the NCAA is looming at Miami, and he decides to go to OSU instead?

Before you get excited about recruiting in Florida, realize OSU has always had a handful of starters from the sunshine state. There are lots of underclassmen at UF who will tell their young friends how they were flat out lied to by Urban Meyer. They tweeted as much last night. Matt Elam was not even one of them. He better focus on recruiting up north. I'm just plain disappointed that Meyer is taking a coaching job a year after quitting for health & family reasons. I'm glad its OSU, but I really think he will be gone before long without any BCS rings.

OSU must be fairly certain that they are not going to get a Bowl ban or they would self impose a Bowl ban this year. Hell they've self imposed everything else you can think of.

247 Sports has been getting comments about the hire from 2012 and 2013 recruits, too numerous to name. Not surprising, GREAT feedback.

Urban is about to turn the B1N on its ear. Buckeyes just hired a rockstar and the bandwagon will fill up immediately. The Bucks have begun their next dynasty.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Good hire, but I don't think he'll "turn the B1N on it's ear." I'd be surprised if had as much success as Tress, though those are big shoes to fill.

^Agree. I think he will pull a couple more national recruits than Tressel, but Tressel had top 5 classes every year. It will be hard to top.

Also there is an article in the cantonrep that Brionte is waiting on a call from Urban and doesn't want to play in the spread offense. After reading his quotes it sounds to me like Urban just needs to give him a call and relate to him how he will be used (as long as it isn't in the spread option) and he is all buckeye. If we get Studvera(sp) as an OC it shouldn't be hard for him to show Brionte what our offense will look like.

Urban and Fickell seem like a pretty damn good recruiting duo to me. Obviously there are some guys that will need to be spoken to about coaching/system changes, but I'm willing to bet there are even more that are drooling at the chance to play here for that staff.

Tress ruled the B1G for a decade with an iron fist and Urban will do the same. He will get the top recruits in state and about anywhere else he wants with the exception of Cali. (USC) and Texas (UT). With his coaching expertise and the coaching staff he will put together, the top recruits and putting all that together with all The Ohio State University has to offer. We are about to see something very special.

Urban's right hand man coming to Ohio State

a name you might not know---but you will...

MARK PANTONI----formerly Director of Football Administation at Florida will be joining Meyer starting Wednesday.

Mark will be Director of Football Operations at OSU and will coordinate all recruiting efforts from OSU's standpoint.

He will organize a Friday Night Lights type of program at Ohio State

He will be the main administrative interface between OSU and high school coaches.

He will organize, coordinate and administer all the camps for Ohio State.

When it comes to recruiting----there is NO ONE that Urban leans on harder than Pantoni----and he is now going to be a Buckeye.

Big get.

Yea, people seem to forget that Urban ran a fairly straight up offense when he had Chris Leak who could throw the ball pretty well. Things changed a bit because Tebow wasn't much of a passer.

He produced a #1 overall first round pick in Alex Smith from Utah. I think that is probably one of his biggest accomplishments. Getting to a BCS game with Utah, going undefeated and having a heisman candidate from there, then going on to UF to win a couple titles. Excited to see the type of talent and speed he will being to TOSU.

I know they have some fast guys, but I'm talking about guys like Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, Joe Haden, etc. then the kind of defensive guys he had was pretty awesome too. They may not win it all next year, but Im thinking 2 years from now will be pretty special.
