LOL...you're one to talk. It's an OSU thread. Shitting on and laughing at Michigan is allowed and encouraged. Feel free to breeze past my posts or kindly fuck off from this thread.

Regarding Gibson, I'm on the fence. I only got to see him in the AA game, but he looked very raw. Pryor-like.

I think he will get the nod after Barett/Cardale graduate. He's going to redshirt right?

They did also state that most of the recent national champions were all top 6 in recruiting classes so that is significant.
Baylor and TCU werent even close yet still had great teams.

I think it really is no different than MLB in trying to project out a 17-18 yr old kid into major league talent. Some pan out, most dont.

I'd guess there's a slim chance he gets the nod. There's a reason he's ranked more as an athlete than a QB. Meyer has been raving about Burrows(has brought him up specifically quite a few times today). Meyer said Tom Herman told him he's his next Alex Smith. OSU expects a quick committment from '16 #6 QB Jarrett Guarantano. That will leave 5 QB's on the roster with Miller gone and assuming Jones leaves. Also, Danny Clark is already committed for '17. No way all those guys stay at QB, and the one with the talent to play another position is Gibson. I think he gets a shot at QB, but would be shocked if he ends up there. Also, don't sleep on Stephen Collier.

and it is a good thing to horde some great talent at the QB spot, for a reason like this year and so they dont go elsewhere. Who cares if you have too many great QBs on the roster if it doesnt affect other positions. Better holding a clipboard for OSU than starting for, oh lets say, Michigan.

Sounds like Armani Reeves(concussions), Devan Bogard(3 ACL tears in 3 years), and Ron Tanner(?) will be done with football due to their injuries.

Armani Reeves damn that's sad. He was a frustrating player to watch but he played well during their great run

Feel bad for all those guys, but Bogard's situation is really sad. Coaches loved him, and he probably would've played a very big role on this team, had he been able to stay healthy.

IMHO it is important that teams bring in talent but I'm not sure the number of stars means as much as the people who assign those stars would like. If someone is good enough for the OSU coaching staff, that means more to me than what someone else thinks. There are plenty of examples of players that the "experts" thought were going to be great that didn't pan out, and plenty of 3 stars who ended up being great.

Golic was telling a story this morning about his son and the recruiting stars. Said he son was rated 4 stars when he signed with ND. He didnt attend any camps and such after that because he had his mind made up and then was downgraded to two stars.
I have read in the past how some guys get 'demoted' and how it seems to be retaliatory at times when guys skip certain things.

Yeah and what has little Golic accomplished at ND? They beat LSU? LSU sucks.

Hoping all 3 stay at OSU and graduate.

I will say this though....a lot of shit can change in 4 years of college. Many times those kids finally get to focus 100% on one specific sport and dedicate themselves year round for football. I would venture to say that many of those FB players play more than 1 sport in HS, or at the very least, just dont have the sort of coaching, equipment, and programs at their HS to be able to reach full potential.

For every JJ watt there is 100 2☆ kids that don't see 1 play in the league.

There are no doubt some outliers like JJ Watt, but team recruiting rankings overall are absolutely an indicator of what schools will be good. Coaching will determine how far they go though.

Exactly. That's why I don't pay too much attention to our recruits' rankings. I know we have a staff that will eventually have everyone playing at a national championship level whether you're 5* Curtis Grant or 3* Darron Lee.

I agree coaching plays a big part and the quality of recruits is huge (not to mention a players health), but I'm not convinced the number of stars a recruit has is a true indicator of a player's skill.

Conversely, how many times do you see a 2 or 3 star guy commit to a big time program like OSU, ALabama, etc and suddenly pick up an extra 'star'?

It's a crap shoot at best.

Great to hear from Kareem Walker.
"When I selected Ohio State I was aware that the coaches are the best in the profession and that they would be sought after by other schools and the NFL. I'm sorry to see Coach Drayton move on but he feels thats what's in his best interest and I wish him and his family well. Coach Meyer was very reassuring that he was going to bring in the best RB coach in the nation and he's done that with Coach Alford. I'm very familiar and comfortable with Coach Alford he was recruiting me while at Notre Dame and our relationship is very much like the relationship I have with Coach Drayton. They are more than position coaches they are mentors and will help prepare me for LIFE not just football. Coach Alford has coached many successful running backs and I look forward to the possibility of playing under him. Thank you, Kareem Walker."

Try 3. That guy is a winner and the NFL will be calling his name.
