What is your list of best teams NOT in the playoffs?

The obvious is Ursuline. With big wins the last two weeks, it was too little too late. But if they faced D5 talent all year, they would probably go undefeated. Playing those big schools is both a curse and a blessing.

Unfortunately, Hillsdale's non-league schedule really hurt them this year. Need to toughen that up. Playing schools like Mapleton and Lucas aren't going to help them most years. However, scheduling schools like Dephos St. Johns, like they did last year could. Never understood why them and Crestview or Black River don't try to play each other. They had no control over what their league rivals did but they beat Norwayne and their not part of this discussion. The weren't the only 9-1 team who failed to make it this season.

Southern Local not in at 9-1 has people fired up around here. However, their conference was awful this year, and their half has them playing a lot of D6 schools.

I agree with Marlington to a degree...however I said all season that they were WAY over-rated!

Avon Lake had a pretty good 8-2 season and just missed.

8-2 and they would be in the playoffs if they weren't in arguably the toughest region. Not sure I'd call that overrated.

They would possibly miss in one other region (depends on a Saturday result), but they would have a home game in Region 10!

Over-rated to the fact that so many people called for them winning the whole division this year. They had 4 top notch guys back, but other than that they were pretty raw.

I want to say Hillsdale also. Kind of a victim of circumstance. Feel bad for those kids.

On the opposite end of the spectrum. D3R10 Napoleon makes it in at 5-5. Switching/Upgrading leagues got them beat up a little bit more; given their record. It also allowed them to get a lot more actual quality wins.

Ursuline went 4-6. Not playoff worthy.

Agreed. There are a LOT of teams in D5 breathing a sigh of relief at them not being in.

Yeah, it's a shame to see them not get in. They had some real talent.

If you don't think Ursuline had a shot at winning the whole thing, even at 4-6, then you didn't see them play.

They aren't playoff worthy because they didn't get enough points, but record itself is less of a factor. I remember Walsh Jesuit getting in at 3-6 one year, and they weren't even the 8th seed. They got in because they beat three playoff teams in divisions up.

4-6 means nothing without strength of schedule taken into account.

Throughout the years, good teams have beaten playoff teams and missed. It happens.

Smithville played some good teams in their non-league games, and as a result, they were able to get in. Hillsdale needs to follow suit if they want to play in Week 11.

Their in-state losses were to Mentor, Lake Catholic, Steubenville, St Edward. Wow! They beat playoff-bound teams such as Cardinal Mooney and St Vincent-St Mary. They would be a FORCE in DV.

Best teams not to make the playoffs:
Glenville (DI:R1)
Twinsburg (DI:R2)
Massillon (DI:R2)
Marlington (DIII:R11)
Bishop Fenwick (DIV:R16)
Ursuline (DV:R17)
Hillsdale (DV:R19) - Finished #9, beat #8 Smithville head-to-head, lost to 9-1 Norwayne (DIV playoffs) in last minute

As far as Marlington goes.... I do believe they are a tad bit overrated, but because of their coaching.

How many D1 commits do they have? 3? 4? Give any team just ONE of those players and an entire season changes... Their down fall was against Louisville. Yes I know about the bad call, but they were talented enough to overcome that obstacle. When they were down late in the game, they resorted to the passing game. They SHOULD have stuck with their bread and butter running game with their 2 awesome backs and line. Bad coaching. That game alone kept them out. Better luck to the Dukes next year.

Westerville South finished 8-2 out of the OCC and was left home. I'd put them up there in DI.

Ursuline by far if they got in they were favorited by 2td's against every team in D5
