It started when he was in second grade, he played on the flag football team. He and every other kid wanted to be the quarterback. A couple of years later we moved into youth football, he found out he was a lineman. In youth football he played with strep throat (take that Hillis), he played hard and would cry of laugh after the games depending on the outcome. In junior high he was introduced to playing on the road. Taking the hour plus bus ride and having to get ready in the parking lot to play. His freshmen year started out with a personal challenge, but he and his team mates over came it. He played Freshman and JV.

Through it all I have had to make sure he had waht he needed, his clothes were clean , sometimes his food was packed, that he was out of bed in time to make it to two-a-days, he knew where he needed to be and what time he needed to be there. I would dispense Ibuprofin and advice after games and parctices. I sometimes had to kick his butt and sometimes just comfort him. We have sat through almost 100 degree temps, rain, snow, and a combination of both.

On the field I have watched him develop into a leader, a winner, a team mate his team mates can depend on. Off the field I have watched him become a leader, someone who accepts their share of responsibilty, and works hard. I owe all that to his involement in football. I know the level he has dedicated himself to his team, and that makes me proud.

Tonight, at some point around 9:30 I know he will walk off the football field for the very last time. I will be waiting for him like I have every game for the past eight years, I know he will walk off the field with his head held high. I am not so confident I will.

Thanks for the memories.

It's not an end tonight, RINGZ, it's a beginning.

Be there for him like he knows you will.

There is nothing more rewarding in life than being a Dad.
