My sources are telling me BYU to the Big 12 is a done deal..anyone hear this?

Also hearing a few other things:

Big 12 is looking at Big East teams to get them to 12/14 teams.

Air Force, Army, and Navy are close to creating an Armed Forces Network?

A Cincinnati paid site is reporting #BYU, #TCU, #Louisville, #Cincinnati, West Virginia to join Big 12 -- if Missouri stays that makes 14

Bearcat Lair, the Cincinnati site in the 247 Sports network of sites, is reporting that Louisville, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and TCU are working to become members of the Big XII. The site reports that BYU is in negotiatons to join the Big XII.

BYU and TCU should both be locks. I didn't think they'd look as far east as West Virginia. I thought they'd look at an SMU (who publicly declared interest in getting into a BCS conference back in August) or Houston first.

I thought they said they don't want any more Texas schools somewhere during all of this

I think they'd be wiling to take a Texas school if it meant save/revamp the conference.

The B12 is looking to expand its footprint into other markets. The link above mentions TCU. The B12 already has Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor. No need to bring in SMU, Houston or Rice as you already have Texas sured up. I also believe the other conference members (namely Oklahoma and the B12 North Schools) are tired of the conference being controlled by Texans.

There could be 11 schools outside of the state and if the 12th was UT the conference would still be controlled by Texas.

I hadn't heard that. Definitely possible, but it would make the TCU choice a little bit of a head scratcher.

Wrong. The Big 12 is looking to survive.

Have read that a few times. I would guess that was the preference when the conference wasn't on the verge of dying. For some reason I was thinking TCU inquired and was told "no thanks" before they signed up for the Big East. At this point, TCU is a decent commodity, perhaps not as a financial coup but certainly from a competitive/program stability standpoint.

Plus, there's limited options to begin with, so might as well take the best available (at the least, all of those schools are already BCS-established).

sure why not. grab two more teams (if there are two more teams out there) and go to the 4 pod, 16 team conference that was bandied about by the pac 12.

south pod - texas, tcu, texas tech, baylor
west pod - oklahoma, oklahoma st, byu, new mexico/airforce
north pod - missouri, iowa st, kansas, kansas st
east pod - louisville, cincy, west virginia, usf

it's an idea at least

^^^That'd actually be awesome.

2 Months ago, the conference is on Hospice, and all of a sudden is the most "progressive" conference around.

I guess the thing that bugs me about this whole conference alignment BS is that the WAC tried 16 teams, and it didn't work out, which is why we have the MWC.

I assume that the powers that be think that throwing $$$$$$$$$ at the same situation as the WAC had would make it better.
