A bullshit effort from a Dusty Baker led team. The Reds got a single by Renteria in the first and a double by Heisey in the 2nd and then the Reds went the rest of the game (26 hitters) without another hit. Who were they facing.....Kershaw? Verlander? No they were facing Miguel Bautista, yes Miguel Bautista. How many of you knew he still played....in the past 5 years? The 40 year old threw his first complete game since 2006.

I'm ecstatic Stubbs got 300 more at bats than Heisey and Janish had the 5th most at bats on the team.

People can say what they want about Dinglebaker, but he did lead three different teams to the postseason.

I think two types of managers, the players type and fire-and-brimstone, are effective in the short term. In the former the players love that type of style but after awhile it gets too relaxing and the small things start to slide. The latter type of manager gets guys ready to go but their "act" grows old and players tune him out (Guillen).

The best type of managers are more in the middle.

and to think that Heisey had I think more HR and RBI with that many less AB's than Stubbs.

Heisey's avg against lefties is pretty bad as he wails at the low and outside offspeed pitch that they love to throw.

He was supposed to get every day PT for the rest of the year but he got hurt.

Yeah Heisey didn't for much average, but I always thought his ability to hit would only increase with more PT. His PT was pretty spotty there for a while. It's pretty tough to sit on the bench for 3-4 days and then come in and hit off big league pitching

Heisey only had 61 AB against lefties and hit .197.
He had 218 AB and a .271 average vs righties.

For awhile I know DB worked the matchups I think and didnt allow Heisey some AB's vs lefties. Ya would think he would get better with more PT against them.

He had 54 starts and hit .237 in those starts (211ABs) and hit 14 HR.s
He played in 66 games a a sub, with 66AB and hit .309.

Fitting end to the season for the Redlegs. The key word come spring training needs to be "consistency". There's alot of talent on this team, but as you typically have with young guys, there's too much incosistency(see Bruce, Jay).

I really don't know if Heisey is the answer. I look at him as more of a spot starter/pinch hitter type of player. It seemed like more ABs for him never amounted to more production. He is a great spot starter, but it seems like when he does start for longer periods his hitting really drops off.

Thing is, he really has never gotten an extended period of starting. He was to get to start everyday but got injured.

His avg when he starts isnt that great, but it is hard to ignore his production when he is in there. 18 bombs and close to 50 rbi in less than half of the at bats than a starter gets. When a guy gets PT ya tell him to produce so he can get more PT. Well, Heisey is producing. A couple of yersa go he was considered one of the top players in their system so it isnt like this is just some fluke that he started to play well.

It is hard to NOT give him every opportunity to win a starting spot this year. I think Bruce is the only locked in spot in the OF. Stubbs was the future, but he had very little competition for his spot when he came up.

Heisey plays very good defense as wel.

They cannot have both Leake and Arroyo on the team. They either have to trade Votto or plan on Alonso in LF regularly. If they don't trade Votto, they need to trade either Stubbs or Heisey.

Why can they not have both Leake and Arroyo? If Arroyo is on his game, which I think he is past his prime, there is no reason not to. I think I know what you are getting at, that they are both finesse type of pitchers with about the same stuff. So what.....dont pitch them back to back in the rotation.

But I agree..Arroyo is past his prime. His contract sucks tho to try and move him.


No way you trade your best player in Votto. No way. Alonso was getting some good PT in LF and next year the LF and CF will be between Stubbs Heisey, Alonso and i imagine sappelt will get a look as well.

Why not Alonso at 3rd? He has to play everyday.

I think maybe they are looking at Fransisco as the next third baseman.

He made one of, if not the, best play down the line that I ever saw by a third baseman.

With Alonso they need to find a spot and have him work at it. Baker said the main reason Alonso did see some PT immediately when he came up was because they basically treated him like a brand new OF coming into spring training and worked on the fundamentals each day. They wanted him to get his footwork alot better before throwing him out there everyday.
