Can't wait for the inevitable bashing to start by all of those who act like they're musical experts and say this isn't music. That's likely all this thread will be, with a few guys thrown in that actually care.

Anyways, thanks. There were a few I hadn't heard.

Just downloaded a really cool collaboration album between The Black Keys and Damon Dash.

The album is called Blackroc (as is the group. I guess they're a group?). The Keys do all the music, as well as some backing vocals, and it features Mos Def, RZA, Ludacris, Jim Jones, Raekwon, NOE, and Ol' Dirty Bastard (I'm guessing an old track) on the mic.

It's one of the best hip hop albums I've listened to in awhile.

I think hip hop (and specifically rap) has evolved in a really interesting way. It seems, at least to me, about five or six years ago, that there was a three way divide in the rap genre. Some rappers continued to work with a gansta rap (a watered down, commercialized version, but I think, the best way to describe it) model what had been commercially viable through most of the 90s (think Eminem, Ludacris and 50 Cent), some moved more towards "krunk" music and probably became the auto-tune crowd, and then others moved back to a funk and soul sound (IMO, Kanye's beats and sampling lead to this path. OutKast and Nas both put out albums like this, as well)

Of all the paths, I found the funky soul path most interesting, and it seems the next logical step (which a lot of the indi, underground rappers have moved towards) is collaboration with the indi rock/experimental rock clique.

I look forward to more albums like Blackroc.

That BlakRoc album is amazing. I love the Black Keys, not usually a hip hop fan, but what a great collaboration.

I love Em, but everything else just sounds like the same old....when someone is as innovative as Oukast was/is i'll listen. Until then.....

Kid Cudi is the shit.

Man on the Moon was no doubt my favorite album of '09.

My bad. I just got it off of hiphopearly.com the other day so I thought it was new. Plus I wanted to revive this thread.

I thought Highs and Lows was new also because it was just posted on rapbasement.com and they usually post songs the day they get released. I also can't find the mixtape that was released last year that has that song on it.
