Navy's athletic director Chet Gladchuk has confirmed that they have been contacted by BCS conferences regarding joining. He has said they are satisfied with where they are at over the next 6 -7 years but need to be proactive in ensuring their position in college football after that considering that mass realignment talks.

"CG: Well it’s going to put a lot of people out of business in some respects I think. What will be left for the others – either you are in or you are out – and I believe if you are not in, you may be looking at crumbs. And that’s probably what is going to happen. If you get to this super-conference situation, you know as well as I do, where is the real interest by the media…by the market…by television. It’s going to be with the big guys. It’s no different than even last year. If you look at the BCS conferences and what they split – they split $750 million in revenues between television and bowl games. And everyone else – the other 60 schools or so got $23 million. It was already moving in that direction. This will be just another step in capitalizing on the dollars that are available. ESPN is always looking to televise the best game – CBS the same way – there are only so many television slots…so many bowl games and scheduling opportunities. If super-conferences merge as the way that it seems that they will…it will not leave much latitude for the others…certainly not enough revenue to allow them to successfully compete with those major institutions. I think we are looking at a separation here that could be significant in college football.

GM: Do you think there is anything that can be done to prevent that?
CG: It’s the American way of life. It’s Wal-mart. It’s the oil industry. It’s the way it goes. The bigger are just going to get stronger and they are working diligently to capture a greater share of the market. Do you really think that there was anything other than that (involved) when the ACC, very quietly and behind closed doors, negotiated with Pittsburgh and Syracuse?

Based on those comments, he sounds like a pretty smart man. With that said, Navy should join a BCS conference NOW. Why wait 6 years? The biggest cash grab of all time is going on and Navy is going to miss out. I am assuming it was the Big East and they would be a good fit there. I could have seen them winning the Big East a couple of times during the Paul Johnson era.

In another article he stated that Navy is in talks with "several" BCS conferences.

"...Gladchuk would not speak specifically about the Big East, but did confirm to The Capital that Navy has been in discussion with several Bowl Championship Series conferences about the prospect of becoming a member in football...."

The challenge is that they are only looking to add their football programs to a conference potentially.

They will not consider any conference that jeopardizes their commitment to play both Air Force and Army each year.

Why would they commit to the Big East when it's in such a disaster???

"...Right now, the Big East is in survival mode. They need to stabilize the schools that remain the backbone of the conference,” Gladchuk said. “Nobody is going to commit to the Big East until it is absolutely certain that conference has a viable future."..."

Well, there's only 6, so how many constitutes "several"? I could buy the Big XII since they've already been rumored to be considering Air Force. I believe the ACC would consider them, but doubt it would come to that. And I'd guess there's no reason for the Bee One Gee, SEC, or Pac 40 to even consider it.

Could be talking about the CUSA/MWC idea in which they hope to get one autobid combined?

Several in the context that he used it would be more than one I guess?

I think the Big East would be a fine choice for Navy.

No way would I want Navy in the B1G.

Navy would be a good fit for the Big East. The ACC wouldn't be bad for them either.

Big East would be wise to grab Navy

TCU is scheduled to join the Big East in 2012. Without them I hate the conference.

I hate the idea of Navy even being in the conference but the economics are going to force it.

I don't like the idea of Navy in a conference either but if they want to go bowling they are going to have to join .

There's no way Navy would be a consideration for the big ten. They will only seek a conference that they can be football only participants in. That will not be the Big 10.

Navy is certainly good enough academically to get in to the Big 10 but I think it'd be like another Northwestern really. They gave my Buckeyes quite a scare last time they played though

Rumors are afloat Navy, Air Force and East Carolina have been invited to the Big East.

However, nothing is going to happen until after the B12 put their house in order first.

Navy won't even consider committing to the Big East right how. They can invite all they want.
