When it comes to both academics and athletics who is the best? Amongst FBS schools NCSA Athletic Recruiting created a "power ranking". The power rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels. Fewer than 6% of colleges and universities earn a spot in NCSA Athletic Recruiting Top 100 for 2011.
The power rankings are calculated by averaging student-athlete graduation rates, academic rankings provided by U.S. News & World Report, and the strength of athletic departments as determined by the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.

Here's their top 10 amongst FBS schools.
Top 10
1 Duke
2 Stanford
3 Notre Dame
4. Northwestern
5 Vanderbilt
6 Boston College
7 Naval Academy
8 Wake Forest
9 Penn State
10 North Carolina

I never realized Northwestern was that great academically. I knew they were decent, but didn't realize they would be that high.

Northwestern is one of the elite schools in the country. It's on par with schools like Rice, Vanderbilt, Emory, Georgetown, etc. It's a great school.ernest_t_bass;906494 wrote:I never realized Northwestern was that great academically. The US News rankings of all those schools:
1 Duke (10)
2 Stanford (5)
3 Notre Dame (19)
4 Northwestern (12)
5 Vanderbilt (17)
6 Boston College (31)
7 Naval Academy (14 - National Liberal Arts Colleges)
8 Wake Forest (25)
9 Penn State (45)
10 North Carolina (29)
So yeah, they're all pretty good schools by that measure.

This list is a joke. Its just ranking good schools academically as none of those schools are any good on the field.

Good point. If it was about revenue generating sports, there's no doubt OSU would be #1.FatHobbit;906644 wrote:
