LOL. ESPN, duh."What I do know is they didn’t have the integrity to set the record straight once the words had left their mouth.”

Lol, nobody would be complaining about a lack of offense. (they would find something else, but...)LJ;906316 wrote:2012 OSU head coach

I don't think OSU would ever hire Leach... too much of a loose cannon.
But it sure would be funny to see ESPN's immediate onslaught of criticism of both him and the University. It would be unrelenting.

It'd be awesome if an SEC school hired him (Georgia?). I think ESPN would self combust. How can they complain about their own?

ESPN wouldn't let it happen.

I'd take Leach over Urban. I'm still not sold on Urban for some reason. I can't put my finger on it but something about him rubs me the wrong way. At least with Leach the expectation would be that something would happen.

I'd also take Leach over Meyer. Meyer will make Tressel's "lie" seem like a slap on the wrist.

Meyer has never won big with his own recruited players, has he?

Haha this was awesome:
I love Leach. So what does he really think of Craig James?
His words: “I would have to say I share the opinion of 90 percent of the country.” This is not favorable. Let’s leave it at that.

Possibly at BGSU, but I'm not really sure. Was Tebow and that class his or Zook's?ernest_t_bass;907230 wrote:Meyer has never won big with his own recruited players, has he?
edit: He was at BG for 2 years and Utah for 2 years.
He could have the Rich Rod affect (Pat White), where people show his W/L record with Tebow/Smith and without Tebow/Smith
With Tebow/Alex Smith 70-9 (6 years) Without Tebow/Alex Smith 30-14 (4 years)
As do I. He has that "F... you, this is me" attitude.Iliketurtles;907231 wrote:Haha this was awesome:

And I think he was only at BG for 2 years so its kind of hard to say he won with his own players.

At a minimum, 16 starters on the 2008 championship team were Meyer recruits. That's just off the top of my head.ernest_t_bass;907230 wrote:Meyer has never won big with his own recruited players, has he?
Perhaps they weren't his own players, but BG had six straight losing seasons prior to Meyer's arrival, including 2-9 right before he was hired. Utah was coming off a losing record when he took over there. Florida had three straight, 5-loss seasons.karen lotz;907337 wrote:And I think he was only at BG for 2 years so its kind of hard to say he won with his own players.
In every case, Meyer might not have won "with his own players," but he certainly took the program to a completely different level within 1-2 years.
Your numbers are a little off. Tebow started 3 years with a record of 35-6 (yes, he was a contributor his freshman year). Alex Smith was 22-2 with Meyer. That is 57-8. When one of those guys wasn't the starter, he was 47-15. Winning 75% of your games isn't a bad clip and it is a lot different than Rich Rod, who was right around .500 (FBS) without Pat White.bigkahuna;907330 wrote:He could have the Rich Rod affect (Pat White), where people show his W/L record with Tebow/Smith and without Tebow/Smith

Obviously good coaches are going to do better when they have great players. But there are plenty of great quarterbacks with good coaches who don't: a) go undefeated or b) win a National Championship.
Meyer has his flaws as a coach, but to act as though his record was handed to him by someone else (you still have to plug them in) or based on having one star player is silly.

I would hope the Chairman of the Board of ANY University would have a say in the hiring of the head football coach :rolleyes:Dr Winston O'Boogie;907353 wrote:i can't see Les Wexner, I mean Ohio State hiring a guy like this.

Don't worry, he's got plenty of say. He's pretty much bought and paid for the university and has his boy wonder in as president. Les has things well under control at 15th and High.

I wasn't discrediting him as a coach at all. He's obviously very good either with just his schemes, or getting his players ready to play, or recruiting, or a combination of all of that as evidenced by his success very quickly at every stop he's been. I was just answering the question about whether or not he won with his own players at BG or not. He is a great football coach, and I would have been fine with him taking the Notre Dame job either of the last two times its come open.enigmaax;907638 wrote:Perhaps they weren't his own players, but BG had six straight losing seasons prior to Meyer's arrival, including 2-9 right before he was hired. I don't personally know him, so I can't say I dislike him. I don't like the fact that he has bought himself an inordinate amount of influence at a supposidely public university. The only reason Gee is here for a second stint is because Wexner wanted him back. This is an example. And I personally don't believe Gordon Gee is good for the school. To the point though, I think it is not appropriate for one person to be in a position (simply due to the amount of money he's given the place) to exercise his influenc over all aspects of things. That's all.stroups;907957 wrote:So what is your reason for not liking wexner?

You realize that it is typically very successful businesspeople who are on the boards of large universities right? I wouldn't really call it "buying" his "power". He has served on the board on and off since 1988. This is before he really started giving much to OSU. It was due to his success and prominence in the local community. He was elected as Chairman in 2009, 2 years AFTER Gee came back.Dr Winston O'Boogie;908014 wrote:I don't personally know him, so I can't say I dislike him. Wexner went to OSU. He's the most successful businessman in Ohio. I'm fine with him being on the board.
