After 5 days, Time Warner sucks and want to cancel

Alright so I had Time Warner cable and internet installed in my apartment last Friday and have had nothing but problems. First, I had to pay two installation fees and "first months bill" payments. I paid when I scheduled the installation and was told by the guy who installed the service that he could not leave until I paid him the installation and first months bill even though I had proof that I had already paid. Had to call and talk to the damn customer service for a half hour to get things straightened out. Secondly, my DVR service is non existent. Cannot record, rewind, etc. Thirdly, the cable box is complete shit. The guide freezes everytime it's used, channels disappear and say they are unavailable. And finally, the internet is very unreliable.

I have heard how shitty Time Warner is but still chose them. So my question is what steps I should take to cancel my service? My other option is WOW. Should I wait until the next billing period then cancel or ASAP? Anyone else gone through this with Time Warner?

Thanks

If you paid a month in advance, cancel them now. You'll be out the installation fees, but you SHOULD get a pro-rated amount back for the portion of the month you did not have their service.

You proabably have to pay more to cancel.....but how pissed I would be in that scenario....the money wouldn't matter. My DVR abilities and my channels and the ability to pause, stop, rewind and fast forward...slo mo...worth about $10 billion to me.

How so? To my knowledge, Time Warner doesn't have contracts. So there should not be any sort of penalty to cancel. You just have to take all the equipment back.

That reminds me, make sure you get receipts that show that you returned all your equipment. Time Warner still wants me to pay $140 for a cable modem that they say I never turned in after I cancelled them the first time.

Have no idea....just no I'd cancel immediately. Can't live without tv......it's almost as valuable to me as my ability to post on the OC.

I don't disagree with you there. I just disagree with the statement that it would cost more to cancel.

Call and see if you can't go into the local TW office and exchange your box for a newer one. Some of their older ones are real pieces of shit.

All I have to say is you're an idiot if you knew / heard that Time Warner was shitty and you still chose to go with them [assuming you actually had a choice to choose someone else]. There have been numerous threads on here ripping Time Warner to sheds and illustrating just how putrid their customer service is. Time Warner is the worst, and I can't wait till I actually have a choice to choose another provider. I'll make the switch in a heart beat. If it wasn't for sports, I wouldn't give Time Warner another dime.

I got RoadRunner in August, haven't had one problem.

This is my first time using TWC/RoadRunner since 2004, and I never had a problem then. I don't doubt that people have had problems, I just haven't experienced it.

Switching to ATT U-Verse was the best tv decision I've ever made.

If your Internet Connection is shit, run a speed test, see if it compares to what you are paying for, if not, call tech support and they will either address the issue over the phone or have someone work on the nodes to get it to normal. Had this happen a few months ago where I was getting 1 MB/s and was use to 11-12. After the fix, I was hitting 17.

i've contemplated fire bombing TWC i hate them so much. they had to come out 3 times in the first two weeks i had them because of issues with the cable box being shitty and not getting certain channels. didnt help one day i waited on the phone for 2 hours and another for 1 hour. but the problem you described with the guide is pretty normal. probably once every few weeks that happens. normally pulling the plug and letting it reboot clears it up.

never had a problem with the internet though.

Buckeye CableSystem in the Toledo area is THE best cable provider bar none. Buckeye CableSystem should be the standard for all companies to emulate when it comes to customer service and, they should be hired to train other companies in what true customer service is. I would pay extra just to have their service if it were available to me.

TWC is great when you do not have any problems. The issue is getting them to fix a problem and there costumer service sucks!! I have wanted to go over and whoop someones ass every time I try and make an appointment to get something fixed. I still can't get my wireless internet fixed and they have been out three different times. I have gone thru three HD ( DVR) boxes in three years. Seem to break down all the time.

By "wireless internet" do you mean your wifi? Because if so that's your own damned fault not TWC's.

Well, you can get it now where they give you everything you need for wifi, thus when it breaks you can blame them.

Why any dumbass would pay a monthly equipment fee on a wireless router is beyond me, though.

It's probably the same people who pay Best Buy $30 to activate Microsoft Office on their new laptop.

Or $30 to install PS3 firmware updates.

We should just shoot everyone that attempts to buy those services.

My guess is that it is freezing because it is not wired correctly. Where the cable itself comes into the house it should split, one line (tap) goes to the cable outlet where the modem goes to the router. The other line goes to a splitter and to the tv's throughout the house.

I just realized you were in an apartment. I had a similar problem when we moved into our house and this fixed it.

According to the service agent, it could be their problem.

Called TW and got an appointment for Monday. We will see if a new box does the trick.
