Preseason kicks off tonight ... sort of ... with split-squad games against the Atlantapeg Jetshers. I'm cautiously excited that Carter and Wisniewski can provide this team some much needed scoring punch and defensive quarterbacking, but I won't hold my breath. Steve Mason has to be better or it's sitting at home in April again.

Let's Go Jackets, keep all 30 of your fans on board.

haha how do you predict a split squad preseason game? Idk who is even on each team?

But go Jackets baby, I'm pumped for this season. Need Mason to step it up this year, he is the key to the team.

Hope this isn't their last year in Cbus. I heard ticket sales have taken a big hit.

I'd be surprised if it was their last year in Columbus, given that despite their crap situation there are some teams in it worse. It all comes back to winning; if they can string together a few playoff years with a deep run somewhere, the fans will come back.

Their problem with the arena lease could be resolved here soon.

There's a proposal for the team to stay until 2039, it all deals with the casino tax money.

After 2 periods in the home game, CBJ up 5-1. Even though it doesn't mean diddly, it feels good to type that :D

Not a bad go of things in the first period of game one of the preseason. Time for irrational exuberance :)

This better be the year they do something. I hope they don't leave but Columbus is dumb enough to let them. Oh boy more Monster Truck shows in the Arena yawn

Good, Umberger is a good leader from what I can tell.

Home team was good last night, away team not so much. Obviously you don't want to take too much away from those games though.

The Blue Jackets have made their pitch to be the team moved to the Eastern Conference. Now it's up to the NHL to decide.

If the NHL moves the Dead Things instead of the CBJ, it will be just another bad move by a league that has had problems getting things right, lately. Detroit can easily thrive by staying put; a move to the East would immensely help the Jackets two ways: help keep game times reasonable for fans, which may help build the base; and cut travel costs quite a bit, which will save money for a franchise that needs to save as much as possible.

I agree entirely. Wings will be fine in the East OR the West. Jackets are hemorrhaging fans and need something to pep up the troops, so to speak. The only question is, will the NHL cave to the pressure of Detroit fans, or make the smarter business decision?

Did they announce how long Wisniewski's suspension is? I haven't seen it anywhere.

Hasn't been announced yet. Staubitz got the rest of the preseason+3 regular season games.

Also, Shannahan is giving suspensions out like it's fucking candy. If he's going to be like this all year, he'll turn into a joke.

Wiz got 3 preseason and a 8 game suspension.

Shanahan is officially out of control. Hell, Wiz hit him in the chest.

Detroit needs to go east. It's a horrible travel during the playoff series to go from the west coast to the Motor City. Also that way you'd have 5 of the O6 teams in the same division and that'd boost ratings and regular season interest, why you think NBC starts the season with a Thanksgiving game of Det @ Bos

Wrong.

Detroit doesn't NEED to change anything and they'll continue to be a very successful franchise.

Columbus is further East than Detroit and is struggling financially. Giving the franchise a big break in travel can only help, and building some rivalries with teams like Pittsburgh will also help build attendance.

Columbus has far less in common with the western teams than Detroit. Detroit has a longer history established.

Columbus going East makes the most sense, by far. But, knowing how fucked up the NHL can be, it won't surprise me in the least if they select Detroit. Stupid is as stupid does.

Shanahan's twitter videos are also ridiculous. Wiz is a repeat offender which killed him, he has a previous 8 gamer on his record.
