On my drive home sunday when I heard the browns lost I turned to their postgame show. I needed some entertainment and enjoyment because of the steelers debacle.

On the Browns radio Network...their postgame host said....'the bengals offense saw the ____(WR name) who was not covered and quick snapped the browns before the defense could get set which is a bush league call on the bengals part'.

Seriously? Is that what a browns radio host calls bush league? SHould the QB wait until the defense is ready?

It's not the job of the offense to wait for the defense to get ready to play. The offense initiates the action, the defense needs to be in place and ready to go.

I couldnt believe he said it. If it was some idiot caller....I could understand becuase many callers are idiots...but the host of the postgame show?

and btw.....does Colt McCoy always should like a shy 5th grader in interiews. They carried the post game press conference with him and he sounded like he hadnt ever been interviewed beffore.

I believe the bush league comments derive from the fact it might not have been a legal play, however as other posters have said, the Browns should have been ready to play. That was a joke. You see that type of shit in HS, not in the NFL.

Not a legal play? In what way? Once the ball is marked for play anything can happen.

Are you questioning if there should have been a penalty on the bengals, maybe illegal formation or illegal motion (2 or more guys moving at the time of the snap?)

The debate was whether the browns were allowed to substitute since the Bengals did. The browns still had 12 in the huddle

OK.

The host still called the quick snap bush league and never followed it up, at least in the next 15 or so minutes, and didnt mention or question that the refs bungled it up. The insinuation when he first said it was that the quick snap before the defense was set was bush league.

And it is a dumb debate anyhow, because sheard and Taylor came off the field, so they did sub....at least they did according to Reghi. I was there and notice anything until the ball had been snapped

The Bengals substituted. The Browns countered that sub with one of their own and hadn't got the 12th man off the field. The bengals saw the Browns weren't ready and quick snapped it. It is a penalty, in that the Browns weren't given time to make the substitution. But, they still should have broke the huddle when they saw Cinci line up. And they could have called time out or brought it to the officials attention, who clearly had no idea what the fuck was going on.

No sympathy. Most of those guys will make more in a year than we will in our lifetime - is it too much to ask that they pay freaking attention?

The problem was the Browns sent 2 guys in to be the nickelback because their coaches weren't on the same page. That's what led to the issues with the Browns not being ready. The Bengals didn't do anything illegal, just the Browns had no idea what was going on, so the Bengals took advantage of it.

The umpire stands over the ball while the defense subs. Once he moves the ball is ready for play. He had moved so he thought the Browns had ample time to sub. The defense is only allowed this when the offense subs.

What do you think he should have done? I honestly thought other than the first quarter (aided by piss poor punting), and that one play the defense played pretty well.

I did not see the play, but you have described the rule well.

Yeah, I have no problems with how the defense played. The offense and special teams though? That's a different story.

Browns should have commited penalty 13 or something by jumping offsides to negate the play.
