No Alonso and no Mesoraco....but Stubbs is in there by God, Dusty wants him to get 100 runs....and I want him to get 200 K....so everything should work out.
Dusty quotes from John Fay:
"You can’t shelve the guys who were here before either. You can’t just say: ‘Hey man, you’re not playing anymore.’ Everybody here’s trying to make a living. Everybody here is trying to have a good year. Everybody here is trying get a job for next year, whether it is here or somewhere else. So you do what you can.”
“I was a September call-up. These guys are getting a lot more playing time than I ever got. Everybody is trying to get their numbers. I’m doing what’s best for them and what’s best for the team.”
“Joey’s trying to get 100 RBI. Jay’s trying to get 100 RBI. Stubbs is trying to get 100 runs. These are things you can’t take back. Brandon is trying to have the best year he can because his contract expires. You try to keep all these things in mind. Whether people understand or not, I don’t have any remorse about it. These guys have been busting their butts all year long.”
No I don't understand Dusty! Do you work for the Reds organization, or for the players? No one is owed playing time, especially not to accomplish their goals. In fact what is best for the player may not be the best for the Reds. Who cares whether the team is over .500 or not, judgement of the season should be if you made the playoffs, and if not, how long you are in the race for the playoffs. There is no reason to play Cairo! He has a contract next year and more playing isn't going to do squat about next year. The regulars had their chance to stay in the race and failed. Once that is obvious it should be about seeing how the young players can do, with the exception when you are playing someone who is hotly contesting in the race, but this year those teams just about do not exist.
