CBS is reporting that Miami will declare 12+ players as "ineligible."
Twelve or more players being investigated by the NCAA in connection with allegations made by convicted Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro are expected to be ruled ineligible by the school, according to the Miami Herald. The Herald reports the school would declare the players ineligible and then hope the NCAA reinstates them by the time the season starts Sept. 5.

Fat chance they get the Cam Newton treatment and get reinstated before the season.

I disagree. I think Miami will see (at the bare minimum) a couple players ineligible, if not all of the ones in question.

I can't believe it took them this long.

What the NCAA needs to do to further discourage this is take ineligible players scholarships from them.

I don't think Miami will get Cam Newton treatment. There is just far too much out there on this. There are actual pictures and receipts. Miami's goose is cooked.

I doubt they get the particulars figured out soon enough to declare these guys eligible before the 5th game or so. Remember, dollar amounts figure heavily into game suspensions; so the NCAA is going to need a good forensic accountant to put this together. Then tell Miami what will need to happen for reinstatement (money repaid, games suspended). That's not a fast process unless you're trying to whitewash something -- as I believe they did in the sCam Newton case. I don't think the NCAA cared that he got ruled eligible quickly, figuring the case was unusual enough it would likely be revisited later (as it now happening).

I don't see the same issue with Miami.

I'm going to guess most of these guys lose 2-6 games, depending on what they accepted as gifts/cash.

Converted tight end Dyron Dye and safety Ray-Ray Armstrong must serve a four game suspension while defensive end Olver Vernon must miss six games of competition.

I think the penalties are a little lax for some of the guys. Should've been at least 2, if not 3 games for the guys that took over $500 in benefits.

The 8 who got suspended and what they have to pay back before they are reinstated.

Vernon - 6 Games - Repay $1200 that he gifts/extra benefits he received as a recruit.
Armstrong - 4 Games - Repay $788
Dye - 4 Games - Repay $738
Forston - 1 Game - Repay more than $400
Spence - 1 Game - Repay more than $275
Ojomo - 1 Game - Repay more than $240
Benjamin - 1 Game - Repay more than 150
Harris - 1 Game - Repay more than $140

The three that were suspended multiple games were suspended more than the others because they took the benefits/gifts while they were being recruited.

4 more players have to repay less than $100 but were not suspended.

The school also announced wide receiver Aldarius Johnson was suspended indefinitely by coach Al Golden for a violation of team rules.

^ this is going to hurt the ewe. Unless indefinitely is 1 game.

I hope Harris is playing when OSU rolls into town. He was the best thing on the field for the Buckeyes last season.

It's easy to forget that this is only them reacting to the other-days news of Miami ruling them ineligible. The other improper benefits that Shapiro gave to current/former players as well as the coaches knowing about it is still under investigation.
