Well, for those of you who took the summer off, here's your chance to get in some mat time early! Registrations are now being accepted for the Sixth Annual Pirate Pre-Season Open wrestling tournament at Cardington-Lincoln High School on Sunday, October 30. Go to http://www.CardingtonWrestling.com/ to download the tournament flyer and/or to register on-line to compete in this event.

I am registered on six different wrestling forums, will not do regular updates on any of the forums (not even this one), but will update the web site frequently and the event page on Facebook.

For the Pirate Pre-Season Open, the flyer says "Weight classes will be determined the day of the tournament (no more than 10% difference without parental permission)." We'll do that after weigh-ins.

If the other tournament you're referring to when you say "both tournaments" is the Delaware Halloween tournament, you'll have to read their flyer (available on http://www.CardingtonWrestling.com) since it depends on which age group you're talking about.

At this time is is uncertain whether John Organiscak will get our flyer (with an entry form) posted on http://www.OhioWrestler.com, because of a family emergency. However, you can get it from our web site, http://www.CardingtonWrestling.com or from the OAC web site, http://www.OhioAthletics.com (Go to the Youth Wrestling page and scroll down until you find it.).

You will want to read the flyer to get all the details. The Cardington Wrestling web site also has a link to a secure on-line entry form - on-line entry is preferred, although you can also do mail-in or walk-in. The on-line entry or the mail-in entry will save you $5 off the walk-in rate.

I'm not certain whether this will happen yet, but we may have some college wrestlers there competing in the Open division.

The chicken and noodles will be at the concession stand. Bring the wrestlers hungry for the mat and the parents just hungry. Even though both of my wrestlers have graduated high school now, I am excited for another season to get under way. One college wrestler planning to be there for sure (about 160#), come give him a go.

School and club coaches may conduct your own weigh-ins for this event for PRE-REGISTERED WRESTLERS ONLY. Pre-registration may be done on-line (preferred!) BEFORE midnight EDT Friday, October 28. Or, mail-in registration may be done by detaching and filling out COMPLETELY the form at the bottom of the flyer, then mailing it to the tournament director at the address on the flyer with a check made out to Cardington-Lincoln Athletic Boosters. Mail-in registrations MUST be received by Saturday, October 29. Coaches' weigh-ins for PRE-REGISTERED wrestlers MUST be received BY E-MAIL (NO PHONED-IN WEIGHTS!) by 5 PM EDT Saturday, October 29. If I receive a weight for a wrestler who is not pre-registered, his name will not appear on the bracket on Sunday.

Walk-in registrations are still always welcome, but will cost you $5 more, $20 instead of $15. You may walk in and register and weigh in from 6 to 7 PM Saturday, October 29 (all divisions), or Sunday, October 30 from 7 to 8 AM (all divisions), or Sunday, October 30 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM (divisions 5, 6, and 7 only).

Wrestling will start promptly at 9:30 AM for divisions 1-4, noon for divisions 5-7.

For more information, go to http://www.CardingtonWrestling.com for the PDF version of the flyer. You will also find a link to the secure on-line registration form there.

(2) Wrestlers may register on-line at http://www.CardingtonWrestling.com.

(4) Wrestling will start on time: 9:30 AM for 12 yrs. old and younger, noon for 13 up through Open.
(5) We will be running four full mats with certified officials.

How are the numbers coming, we would be traveling about 80 miles each way and would like to make sure we will see mat time.

Thanks

1_beast, it's always a crap shoot with a pre-season tournament. You never know who will show up - no matter how much we try to encourage pre-registrations, the vast majority of our entries are always walk-ins the day of the tournament. However, I can say that pre-registrations are running well ahead of last year's numbers, and last year we were able to match up everyone who came for some good action.

Don't forget: On-line registration closes at midnight Friday. Mail-in registrations must be received by Saturday morning's mail delivery. Either of those options will save you $5 over the walk-in rate of $20. Walk-ins may register and weigh in 6 to 7 PM Saturday; 7 to 8 AM Sunday; or 9:30 to 10:30 AM (13 years and older for that last weigh-in).

Pre-registered wrestlers must still be weighed in, either at one of the three official weigh-ins listed above at Cardington-Lincoln High School, or by their coach, who must E-mail weights (for PRE-REGISTERED wrestlers only!) to [email protected] before Saturday at 5 PM.

I will pick up the Delaware weigh-in slips Saturday afternoon. If you pre-registered for the Pirate Pre-Season Open and indicated on the form that you wish to use your Delaware weigh-in for our tournament, I must find your name on a Delaware weigh-in slip for you to be considered weighed in for our Open.

Thanks, zambrown. I noticed in the pre-registration list that you will be coming. The chicken & noodles are worth the trip to Cardington.

Read the tournament flyer at http://www.CardingtonWrestling.com.

The on-line registration form ($15) closes at midnight tonight.

However, you can still walk in ($20) and register and weigh in tomorrow from 6 to 7 PM, or Sunday morning from 7 to 8 AM or 9:30 to 10:30 AM. That last weigh-in (9:30 to 10:30) is only for divisions 5, 6, and 7; the others are open to everyone.

There is still some confusion regarding using your weigh-in for the Delaware Halloween tournament for the Pirate Pre-Season Open. When I went to Delaware this afternoon to pick up the weigh-in slips, Tony Rieman told me that he had "quite a few" wrestlers indicate that they indicated they planned to wrestle at Cardington. However, only about a dozen of our PRE-REGISTERED wrestlers indicated that they intended to wrestle at Delaware and wanted to use their Delaware weigh-in for our tournament.

If you wrestled at Delaware and DID NOT pre-register for Cardington, you may still use your Delaware weigh-in for Cardington. HOWEVER - IN ORDER TO DO SO YOU MUST REGISTER AND PAY AT CARDINGTON BEFORE THE CLOSE OF WEIGH-INS, OR YOUR NAME WILL NOT APPEAR ON A BRACKET. Then, you must also check in with me (Larry Smith) to make sure I have your weigh-in slip from Delaware. Otherwise, you will have to weigh in at Cardington.

ALSO: There are a few wrestlers who pre-registered for our tournament who, to my knowledge, did not participate in a weigh-in at their school or club. I need to hear from your coach with an official weight for you, or else you must come to Cardington and be weighed during one of our weigh-ins.

There are no open division results in the posting because I was not given those brackets. However, I believe it was all Cardington alumni beating up on each other.

I think you missed one weight class in div 6. I was told there was a 177-183lbs (or close to that). Looks like you had a pretty good turnout. The open division must have been Coulters vs Cummings. Those bouts would have been fun to watch. Great young men and wrestlers.

I'm kinda uncomfortable doing this, but since someone asked, I have the results for the 174-189 weight class.

1. Zach Brown - Westerville Central
2. Tyler Beck - Northmor
3. Kevin Deal - Clearfork
4. Kaleb Duffey - Westerville Central
5. Dustin Briggs - Cardington

It probably got missed because they were literally rolling up the other mats when the last match from this class wrestled.
