First, let me describe the format quick. 12 team league. Each team has a roster of 18 players. You must have a full 18 player roster. You have 30 years worth of contracts to give to those 18 players. You can not exceed the cap, but can choose not to use all years for a variety of reasons. You have the players on your team for the length of contract. We have the option to "franchise" one of our own free agents, and restrict 2 others if we choose to do so. This is the team I have left after going 7-6 last season, getting the last playoff spot, then winning the playoffs.
QB - Eli Manning, Sam Bradford
RB - LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore
WR - Mike Wallace, Jeremy Maclin, Mike Sims-Walker
TE - Jason Witten

We play 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, K , DEF

We have our restricted free agent "auction" starting now leading up to our draft Labor Day weekend. I feel like I am set at RB and TE. QB is OK, but WR is pretty weak, especially with Maclin's situation. The following WR are going to be available to bid on in the auction before our unrestricted free agent and rookie draft. Who would you go after and feel comfortable with committing multiple years of cap space to?
Mike Williams (Sea)
Roy Williams (Chi)
James Jones (GB)
Johnny Knox (Chi)
Mario Manningham (NYG)
Santana Moss (WAS)
Steve Johnson (BUF)

I would go after Steve Johnson, Mario Manningham, or Roy Williams in that order.

To go along w/ this, If I sign anyone for longer than 3 years there is a penalty to drop a player during the first half of their contract. I agree that Stevie Johnson and Manningham probably have the best potential value, but what do you think the odds are of getting burned if I have to go to 4 years to sign one of those 2 guys?

Go hard for Manningham, imo. Eli is gonna need someone to throw to with Smith gone, and Manningham early on last year was actually Elis favorite target before an injury. I think he is poised for a big year, along with Hakeem Nicks.

I would love to get either Julio Jones or AJ Green, but I doubt they last to the 12th pick w/ so many of the quality players still under contract I'd expect the top rookies to go pretty early.

I had and won the auction on Mike Williams last night, but the initial owner matched my offer and kept him, so he is out. Each RFA has their own day they go up for auction. This is day 3 of auctions w/ Brandon Jacobs, who I don't plan to bid on. The next 3 days should be interesting w/ Josh Freeman, Roy Williams and Mike Vick on the auction block.

We have had pretty much the same group of 12 guys for the last 7 or 8 years now, and 2 years ago decided to switch things up rather than just doing our standard keeper league. This set-up has been pretty interesting and has taken a lot more thought and strategy, which makes it more exciting and gives the "owners" more of a GM role than just picking starters each week

Me too. My dad is in a keeper/auction league. Steps below this but still miles ahead of random snake drafting.

Yeah. We do a keeper league for baseball (1 P, 1 H, and 1 H/P each year). Set up on a point system. You have 6 points, and can keep 1 or 3 players. Each consecutive year you keep a player it is another point. So 3 payers in yr 1 is 3 pts of 6. Then those same 3 next year will run you to 6/6. By the 3rd year, you cant keep all 3, only 2 and most likely 1 and then 2 others. Its fun, but still not as much as Id like. I was only able to talk them into this cause its "boring" baseball.

We are almost through our Restricted free agents. So far I have only been able to sign Fred Jackson as my #3 RB. I was matched on both Mario Manningham (4 years) and Stevie Johnson (5 years). Ryan Torain, Tim Hightower and LeGarrette Blount are left to go. So far I have:
QB - Eli Manning/Sam Bradford
RB - Lesean McCoy
RB - Frank Gore
WR - Mike Wallace
WR - Jeremy Maclin
WR - Mike Sims-Walker
TE - Jason Witten
Bench - Fred Jackson

I have 6 extra years left to bid, but I have to apply years to Sam Bradford and maybe to my 1st round pick, although I have the 12th pick. I may get in on the Blount bidding, and try to trade a RB for a WR, or hope I can get a starting WR w/ the #12 pick as I don't trust MSW.

I don't trust Maclin or MSW hopefully you can get some kind of WR in the draft if not your WRs are going to suck this year. To bad you didn't get Manningham or Johnson they would have been huge. but your RBs/TE will be great and QB(whichever you start) will be decent.
