Is this dude f**king serious? He's batting .212

He isnt that bad. He had to mean, he has the talent to be an MVP, and that was said talent. If not....he should retire lol.

I have to assume you have not heard Tom Hamilton. He could be a poster child for being a homer.

He meant Rios would be the MVP, but everyone knows Dunn has it locked up

sure it was. Your comparing a homer on a radio station devoted solely to cleveland and select ohio stations with a national television broadcast.

I mean, you can hate Hamilton, but we all know that stems from the ring ceremony when he said something about them taking to long.

He is a homer, but that is fine when your entire audience is Indians fans. Hamilton is great on the Big Ten Network when being objective. He plays to his audience. Hawk does this as well, but the difference is he is a national guy. He is heard by a LOT more people than Sox fans. Not to mention, TV shouldnt be homers like radio (which should be homers).

Even radio shouldn't be that big of homers. Should they have certain tendencies to react stronger when a great play for the home team happens? Sure. But great broadcasters are as objective and knowledgeable as possible.

I disagree. If they are national sure, but not when they are doing their team specific. Jon Miller for the Giants is a great example of being a homer a bit for your team, and when on ESPN being objective.

We were always taught to play to the audience. A radio signal is not reaching anything but the team you are broadcasting for. TV will. Especially WGN, CSN, NESN, etc.

So he's a great broadcaster in the eyes of Indians fans, but as an overall radio announcer I'd say he wouldn't be great. Except when he has a national audience (ie Big 10 Network), he does a great job of being objective, but that's television and it's different. His ability to be both homerish and objective makes him very versatile, but the way I was taught and my personal belief is that you should be as objective as possible at all times.

No, Laley already addressed this. When you are team specific, you should play to your crowd. If not, you probably don't last as long.

Tom Hamilton is considered one the best radio guys in the business, and for good reason... Just as Joe Tait was.

Like I said, I was taught differently. In every venue I listed above that I broadcasted in objectivity was close to required. I witnessed an Oregon media member escorted out of the pressbox during the Rose Bowl because of repeated reactions to Oregon plays.
