The idea is awesome. The reality is insane. How/where in the world do you "test" something like this? Reaching speeds that fast can have catastrophic consequences.
I'm still all for it, however.

So really, it's a glider that detaches from a rocket. The unmanned aircraft, dubbed Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2, is scheduled to be launched at 7 a.m. PDT into the upper reaches of the Earth's atmosphere aboard an eight-story Minotaur IV rocket made by Orbital Sciences Corp.
The aircraft will separate from the booster, dive back toward Earth, level out and glide above the Pacific at 20 times the speed of sound, or Mach 20.

Over the Pacific ocean they are testing it. It will just basically crash land into the ocean at some point. This is their second attempt at it.

They lost it?
I don't know why they need to waste money on such a thing. Marine Expeditionary Units can strike anywhere in the world in 24 hours.

I heard about this too. I don't even want to know (a) how much money was lost and (b) what if this ended up in the wrong hands. Ughhh.
