First day of full contact and my son breaks his index finger on his right hand. Out 4 weeks for sure, and maybe more. Geesh, are you kidding me?

That stinks, hope he has a full and speedy recovery.

The bright side is he won't have to walk off the field in shame after getting drilled by Triway. Always a silver lining.

Just remember this, it could be a lot worse than a minor broken finger...neck injury, knee, etc...He should still be allowed to play with a cast on it. Heck I played with a broken hand for 3 weeks and just had a "club" I could use while playing OLB. haha

On one hand, it stinks to have an injury happen to anyone, especially early on when you're trying to get acclimated. On the other, it could be much worse. I hope all his recuperation goes well and that he gets back on the field soon!

I remember breaking my 5th metatarcel (in the foot, same bone "Z" from the Cavs broke) and missed my whole Freshman season, then tore my MCL and missed 2 games my Junior year, and broke wrist middle of Senior year but didn't tell anyone and played last 5 weeks with it, and had a cast the week after our week 10 game. Haha!

Best of luck to you and your kid, Mr. 300!

Good luck to your kid, hopefully he heals quickly and gets back out there soon. It definitely sucks, but at least it was just a finger.

Broke the same finger during preseason scrimmage. My dad cut it off with a fishing knife and put it somewhere. After we won the State Championship and mythical National Title my grandma sewed it back on. Couple days later wrestling practice started. True story..... of course, we were a lot tougher back then.

Hope the kid heals quickly and has an enjoyable season!!!

You purple pukes are going down to defeat this year. You can take that to the bank.

Halfback on offense, strong safety on D. They put him in a splint so they can xray it again next week to see if it's healing correctly. If not, surgery might be required. That puts bowling season and baseball in the spring in question. He carries a 216 ave on the lanes and is a sophomore.

Ronnie Lott would have just cut it off. Still one of the best tough guy stories I have ever heard from when he played in the NFL. For those of you who don't know it...he dislocated one of his fingers during a 49ers game and just told the trainer to cut the end off so he could keep playing.

You don't need a finger to have heart... play broken or cut it off. :)

Sounds like the quite the athlete. Hopefully it doesn't require the surgery and they can splint that baby up and he'll be able to get on the field

I broke my thumb my Junior year in practice and played in the scrimmage that night? I don't see the significance of losing playing time come football season due to such a small injury. The trainer gave me a splint and I learned to catch/carry the ball around it. Toughen up! Football is too important to miss due to a finger.

Yeah, really. Scholly money is in the bank already from tournament winnings over the years for him. I'm lovin' it!

maybe he can get in on defense, but make sure its protected for playing HB. Don't want a permanently disfigured index finger at that age.
