I can't believe the Tigers would trade their franchise player and somebody as popular as Grandeson...

I think this is a great move for the world champs. Granderson, will now be the everyday CF and maybe bat in the leadoff spot or in that 2 hole.

From everything I've read, Granderson is nothing better than a platoon outfield at this point, due to him being weak against either Left/right pitchers, I'm not too sure which. Tigers fans could confirm this for me. I could be thinking of a different player.heel023 wrote: I think this is a great move for the world champs. If he gets back to how he was a couple years back could be an excellent move, but I'm not sure.
But for Coke, Jackson and Kennedy, I think they could've gotten better.

he'll probably play CF. Kennedy had been injured and was a bust at the Big League level, so I don't mind that, but I kind of wonder about giving up Jackson and Coke. The deal's done now, can't do anything about it, but the Yanks have some guys deep down the line in the system(they've stockpiled arms) that can replace Coke

Definitely. I think this offseason they need to make a play on some Bullpen help, and a Legit 4th/5th starter. Depending on what they decide on Joba, and Hughes.
I personally would like to see Hughes go to the rotation and Joba back to being the 8th inning guy. So we'd be looking for a 1 more starter, as I don't count on Wang coming back, sadly because he was on of the better pitchers in baseball there for a while.

detroit must really be hurting for cash.
great move by the yanks, they are now pretty young at many key positions, its not like they need coke and jackson.

I remember seeing something on OTL I believe, maybe Drennan, that said they may be trading away almost all of the high priced players. I can see Miguel Cabrera being moved as well. I know they want to move Magglio, but no one will take his 18 million.dave wrote: detroit must really be hurting for cash.

Yeah, it was All Bets Are Off... Drennan read the report saying the Tigers were looking to trim A LOT of payroll..
He said you could see them deal quite a few of their big name players..

I really think baseball needs to either put a salary cap in place or retract to about half of it's current size. They could seriously consolidate teams like St. Louis/KC, Detroit/Cleveland/Cincinnati, Pittsburgh/Philly, Washington/Baltimore, Florida/Tampa to level things a bit.

i think Joba needs to return to the pen as well. Pettitte said that he'll be coming back for 2010, now he just needs to work out a deal with the club to stay a Yankee. I would also say taht Damon's days in New York may be finished considering you still have Cabrera and Gardner and Swisher on the roster and the resigning of Matsui is still in doubt. The more that I think about it, losing Coke hurts, but not as much now that Damaso Marte is finally healthy again. You also wonder what happens with Xavier Nady if he is healthy for this year... where does he fit into the mix.... I would also expect Eric Hinske to be let go as well

I agree. They need to re-visit contraction/merging like you've got. Would be the best thing for all parties if they contracted.Little Danny wrote: I really think baseball needs to either put a salary cap in place or retract to about half of it's current size. Salary Cap wouldn't be the answer, because teams like Pittsburgh and Cleveland rely on the Luxury tax to help fund the team/line the owners pockets, all the while the product suffers, and only occasionally do they try to field a winner.

While I am sorry to see Granderson leave Detroit, this moves forces the Tigers to find a legitimate leadoff hitter who won't strikeout 140 times in a season. Granderson will not hit leadoff in New York and he will not hit 2nd (He doesn't make enough contact) He probably will hit 7th or 8th.
The Tiger's GM is a smart guy and has finally sold two players about at the peak of their careers. Time will tell if the Tigers got enough in return.

First off, the deal is not final yet. And the fact that it has been close for about 3 hours now has me wondering.
Anyways, Granderson will be an everyday player for the Yankees, regardless of how pathetic he was against left handed pitching this year. He should have won the gold glove this year over the guy from Baltimore (name escapes me) and has had one of the best fielding percentages amongst outfielders over the past 2 years. He is immediately their best outfielder and with a smaller outfield than Comerica his speed will look even faster. With the short porch in right, he could very well hit 35 home runs this year. The thing that upsets me the most is that out of 29 other teams, the Tigers trade him to the team I hate the most. Anywhere else would have been alright, minus the Twins, and I wouldn't be as upset. He has been one of my favorite players for the last 4 years and it saddens me he is potentially gone.
Jackson seemed to be leaving no matter what which also upsets me since he is still young. The guy they get from Arizona better turn out to be a decent pitcher or I will be pretty upset over this deal. Same goes for Jackson from NY, he better be a stud or their will be a lot of angry Tigers fans.
And the reason all of this has to happen is because of how much freaking money a couple of bums on the Tigers roster are making. Dontrelle Willis is making a ton and has been useless thus far. Guillen makes a ton and can't do anything but DH at this point. Without those two huge contracts, one if not both Grandy and Ed are not going anywhere. And Cabrera is not going anywhere as he is the cornerstone of the franchise with Verlander.
