I saw about half of it. It didn't remind me of back when he was possibly my favorite actor. More of him doing that "really, really self-aware quirky guy" thing that basically is all he does now. Which isn't enough to stop a person from noticing that they're watching a generally mindless movie. The sort that's competent, but nothing else. Doesn't have the "holy shit this is hilariously bad!!!" vibe that makes bad movies fun in the MST3K way; but wasn't actually good.

I saw Godzilla over the weekend. Really wasn't interested in it but got talked into going with the wife and some friends. Thought it was a decent 7/10. Storyline was a lot better than I expected it to be.

I don't think I could fathom ever wanting to actually watch The Lone Ranger. It looked terrible from when the previews first came out and I've never heard a good thing about it since.

It's bad when the preview makes a movie bad

Caught Godzilla yesterday. Started off pretty good but by the middle of it I was pretty much over it. The "fight/battle scenes" weren't anything to write home about. It was almost as if the entire movie was centered around "Oh my gosh... what's Godzilla going to sound like when he roars?!" Thought Godzilla's head looked like a komodo dragon's head, his back/spikes looked like a stegosaurus, swam like a snake in water, and walked like... I don't even know what it walked like, but it was weird.


Also loved how missiles weren't damaging Godzilla or the bugs (whatever the villains were), but yet any time the soldiers needed to run somewhere it was "Oh... better not forget my gun" like measly bullets were going to suddenly stop those big turds, but yet missiles couldn't even put dents in 'em.

All I could think about the entire time during the fight scenes was it felt like I was watching the old classic arcade game Rampage, where giant beasts were knocking into each other and buildings were crumbling to the ground.

Looking forward to catching X-Men: Days of Future Past next week. Can't wait. Hopefully it delivers better than First Class did.

Captain America: Winter Soldier ​is easily the best movie I've seen this year.

I don't have much doubt that Days of Future Past will be better than First Class. The only thing I really enjoyed about First Class was Kevin Bacon.

I think what distinguished Godzilla from a below/above average film for people was "how cool did you think Godzilla looked?" Creating something that never existed to begin with to appear more impressive than corny is always a huge challenge that make or breaks your overall opinion of the movie. IMO, the story was interesting and made it worth the watch. That and throughout the movie you only get small bits and pieces of Godzilla. It isn't until the final 30 minutes or so do you finally see him in action (which I can see how some would view that as negative.)

What you said about the military and their guns reminded me other superhero movies where they have cops/military try to intervene only to be left looking like clueless idiots. It's like we get it, the police are worthless against stopping Batman/Joker.

I loved Rampage. Had it for NES.

Maybe I'm out on a limb here by myself, but I thought the Godzilla in the last film was 'cooler looking' than the one in this film.

X Men is really good. Good story and action. The action scene with Quicksilver is amazing and young magneto is pretty bad ass.

Because they pretty much washed the timelines of the other X-Men movies and essentially did a 'reboot' of the franchise. There were really only 2 'battle scenes' the entire movie, and both occurred simultaneously, so essentially there was only 1 action-packed-battle the entire 2 hrs. Not what I’m paying for. I already know that from the years of comics, games, cartoons, and other media. Just get to the exciting stuff!

James McAvoy (young Professor X) is a helluvan actor, might I say. I was impressed with him in First Class, and he might have even perhaps done a better job in Future Past. Michael Fassbender (young Magneto) does an exception job as well (Magneto really is the perfect on-screen character as opposed to other characters/mutants). Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) was great; but then again, we already knew she can act (Could she be this generation’s Julia Roberts?). But the actor who stole the show by far was Peter Dinklage (Bolivar Trask). I own seasons 1 & 2 of Game of Throne (and currently taping season 4), but I’ve never watched a single episode yet, so I’m really not familiar with his work. This guy stole the show. At first I was pissed they casted a midget to play the role of Trask (after the comics/cartoons has a white ‘normal’ guy, and X3 had a black guy casted as Trask). So there was certainly some inconsistency there, but it wasn’t long into the film until I quickly realized this guy (Dinklage) could act and his stature should have nothing to do with his ability to play the role. He was awesome.

The best scene by far was the Quicksilver scene (if you saw the movie, you’ll know immediately which one I’m referring to) and any scene where Magneto was using his powers (such a badass mutant).

Now that they’ve righted the ship… hopefully they can do Age of Apocalypse right and do the X-Men series/franchise some justice.

I just caught X-Men. It was about 17 times better than Spider-Man. I guess the difference in their Rotten Tomatoes ratings makes sense now. I don't dig that there are 2 Quicksilvers in the Marvel movie universe. I am guessing I will like the Avengers' version more. The acting was solid mostly. I'm not sure what happened to the spoiler button so I'll ask anyone who fully understood the scene after the credits to send me a message and help me out. I understood part of it but not the whole thing.

Days of Future Past was easily 17x better than The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but that doesn't necessarily mean that DFP was actually good. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was actually pretty shitastic. So... saying something is 17x better than an below-average film isn't saying much.


There are two Quicksilvers in the Marvel movie universe because the company that owns the X-Men franchise (FOX) is a different company that owns The Avengers (forget who... maybe WB?)

Oh I know why there are 2 Quicksilvers. I just think it's stupid. I noticed The Four Horsemen, that plus the fact the next one is called Age of Apocalypse is the only reason I knew that is who it was. I wanted to see Apocalypse as I have seen him in comics and trading cards. That would have made my day, just like seeing Thanos after The Avengers' credits.

That was Apocalypse. It was just a 'young' version of him. He had the pale-ish, purple face.
