Figured with the calendar turning to August tomorrow I'd get this thread started up. What's everyone's thoughts on the 1st season of this new conference? I really don't see anyone stopping Genoa from winning their 5th straight league title but the Flyers are on the rise and the Eagles are always there

It should be a interesting year with the addition of Rossford and Fostoria. Genoa will still be on top but i think everybody is doing their best to catch them. Elmowood lost the twins that will hurt them heard rummors of boys quitting Genoa and Lake but only rummers that i now of Woodmore will be young have not heard anything about anybody else but Eastwood has a tough 3 game strech to start the year .

I seen Lake earlier at a 7/7 and they did not impress me much for what it's worth. Will see them again on Tuesday when they have a joint practice with Oak Harbor. Genoa and Eastwood both have a pair of SBC teams early in the season. Those will be tough games for sure. Hats off to Eastwood for scheduling some good opponents.
How ya doing Easyrider ? Pretty sure I know you..

WHEN Oak Harbor wins on Sept 2, rest assured there will be no line - dancing in the end zone.

Lake vs OH combined practice. Lake will struggle with their running game but had a few nice pass plays. OH's offense looked a little rusty but still moved the ball well. OH defense is going to be very tough once again.

Update on the Flyers. Yes 2 seniors quit at the end of summer workouts Tantari and Kolhofer. I'm still shaking my head. Like Rocketfan said the Flyers were not impressive in their scrimmage-practice with OH but their defense was OK after OH scored once. They did look much better after a rocky start against a really good looking Huron team last friday. Gave up 1 TD and scored 2 offensive and one pick 6 to win that 3-1. Defense looked pretty good and the offense ran the ball much better. Both offensive scores were on long pass plays. The starting 11 on both offense and defense should be better than last year but there is very little beyond them. They have to stay healthy to succeed this year. On offense Pennington is a solid senior QB and they have some playmakers with Swartz and Lohman but Abbey needs to get the ball in their hands quick and in space. D-line was a big problem last year but this version looked pretty good last Friday. It looks like Hotmer and Hirzel have moved to the DE spots and there were a few guys rotating on the interior. Tonight they scrimmage Fremont St.Joe and open with Swanton at home next week. 3 out of the first 5 games are against quality opponents that have not lost to Lake in years.

Flyers over Fremont St Joe 3-0 in 2 qtr scrimmage. Defense looked good other than giving up a big play or two. They had a goal line stand and also held on at least one other red zone opportunity. Offense looked better and they ran the ball pretty well. They had 2 key seniors out with injuries but I dont know what the extent is on either.

Woodmore moved the ball all night just could not finish it off and lots of stupid penalties killed drives. But defense did not show up it looks like it is going to be a long year better figure out a way to stop the running game. Shocked to see ottawa hills even score on genoa are they getting soft or is ottawa hills getting better?

Lake 46-0 over Swanton. Its hard to tell how good the Flyers are because Swanton is really bad. The defense looked pretty good gang tackling the load Swanton had at running back. I think the kid was listed at 265# and is a state champ wrestler. Flyers held the Bulldogs to 88 total yards and piled up 350 plus themselves.
Lakes kicking game looks good except one bad snap on a PAT but they turned that into a well executed fire drill 2 pt conversion. Greenlese had a good night returning punts and should have had even more yds but had one backed up because of a block in the back away from the ball. All in all it was a great start for Lake but they will need to head into Ranger country loaded for bear next week.

Nahh Genoa put the freshman in late in the first with a 21-0 lead...if the Comets wanted to they probably could of scored 100 points. Definitely the best passing attack I think Vicars has ever had, this team can do more than just throw 3-4 passes a game. Safe to say this is the team to beat once again but an impressive outing definitely by the Eagles over PH

Not much talk about the Eagles who have 2 impressive wins. I guess next week we will know more, but week 10 looks to be Genoa's only real competition for the year until playoffs.

Is Otsego for real? It does look like week ten will be the showdown for the new league. I am rooting for the Eagles ( need any pointers call Orrville)

Otsego will be improved but still won't be able to compete with the Eagles or Comets IMO.

Woodmore looked great first half besides some supid penalties but second half defense disapered again better get it together soon . Did rossford play that good or did otsego play that bad? Was not expecting it to be anywhere near that close with all the talk about otsego this year .

Otsego is probably just not that great. Now I have not seen them play this year, so take this with a grain of salt. Sure they may have improved but still no where near the level of Eastwood or Genoa. All this talk about them beating Eastwood and giving Otsego a game is kind of funny to me.
