The more I research Steubenville, the more shocked I get. Although I graduated from Big Red, I never even heard of Dino Cellini until just a few months ago. He was probably the best math student Big Red ever had. He was also probably the most successful boss the Mafia ever had. Among other things, he was called the King of Las Vegas. He made hundreds of millions of dollars for the mob and yet he never used a gun. He used his brain instead. As big a mob boss though he was, I have no record that he ever went to jail. The guy was really smart.

Did Dino Martino grad from Big Red too? Regular Vegas pipeline.

Steubenville used to be a huge gambling hub before Vegas came about . Little Chicago was and still is our nickname . Al Capon's boys came here to vacation . or to get away from the heat

Dean Martin's real name was Dino Paul Crocetti. He got as far as Harding Middle School and then dropped out. Dino Cellini, on the other hand, graduated from Big Red with honors.

Name is correct however he attended Grant Junior high and he dropped out at big Red in the 10th grade. Where do you get your sources?

According to the book written on him, he lived on Brady Avenue which would put him in Harding School.

Dino grew up off south street although he had a few different places .. The Italian neighborhood was where St Anthony's church is and all the way to the tunnel under the train bridge going up lincoln Ave . Google him Fairwood . He onced lived very close to what was Testas market ,and Steubenville bakery . Steubenville bakery is still there and is the best bread in the whole tri state area just like DiCarlos pizza is still best.. The Italians are still thriving in steubenville

Dino Cellini was an honors student, not Dino Crocetti (Dean Martin). You're getting your Dinos mixed up.

The biggest issue in Steubenville at the moment is the crime. Sure Wintersville and Mingo have their share, but its REALLY booming in Steubenville. I am not stirring the pot with this post and I am not going to be bias with my support of Creek. With that being said, I worked the streets of Steubenville for 8 years... I have seen a lot and dealt with a lot. Every year it seems to progressively get worse... The crime seems to spread and happen more frequently. On top of that, it also seems that the police force is getting cut yearly as well. That is a very dangerous situation and its only getting worse. I have 5 cousins who all grew up in the Labelle section of town, I used to visit there and we would roam the hilltops as kids usually stopping at Maryland Market for something to drink along the way. We used to walk those tops in the morning, day, and evening and no one bothered you. There were always people sitting on their front porch and waving. Then again that was about 25 years ago. It is very unfortunate That Big Red is becoming more and more of a "casualty of war" when it comes to the crimes. A few (not a lot, or many, or anything more than a few) of the students have chosen the wrong path and it paints a bad picture for Big Red. Most of you on here boast that Steubenville City schools are the best in the area, they have excellent athletics (mainly football) and yet the Big Red name seems to get tarnished almost every year by a former student or player doing something stupid, or worse A former student or player unfortunately loses their life in a tragic event that can be related to the city's crime problem.

It just makes an outsider looking in think to themselves, is football REALLY the only thing that matters? The entire town shuts down on Friday night... The entire town loads a van and travels to support their beloved Big Red... Big Red football is a 24 hour-365 day a year event. Why aren't these same people supporting their community and standing up to the crime the same way they do for this football team to protect not only the town they live in, but the players of their Big Red? Steubenville residents in years past have been known to band together to clean up the city... They have been there, done that. So why now do people turn the other cheek and look away when something happens?

I know, you know, and there are a lot of people that know that some of these kids that are still in High School are showing signs of heading down the wrong path. As a Creek supporter, if I EVER caught wind of a player doing something that could jeopardize their lives or their future, I would absolutely do everything in my power to speak with the school, the coaches, and even the student/player. Its not about making Creek look good, its about a young person who is not on the right path. Is it that well concealed as to what some of these players are doing or are you guys just looking the other way in hopes that a state championship will come before tragedy? Its not that hard to see if you just open your eyes... I'm sorry, but I would trade a State Championship to save the life of player that is headed toward a life of crime or even worse. What is going on down there?!?!

You have posters on here that seem to have a good amount of rep within the program. Enough rep to know whats going on and make a difference. Is painting the horse, hanging flags, becoming a booster, and having access to a closed practice is what "Big Red supporters" are all about? Instead of monitoring every chat site that has a post about Big Red and putting down every area school because they are so horrible compared to Big Red, why do you guys not take a long look in the mirror and do something. Instead of trying to come up with the next cut on Indian Creek, think about the student/player that is out there doing something that may end in tragedy. Think about your loyal support to the Red and use it to fight the crime in your town.

On a non-bias statement, there is NO way I would send my kid to Big Red. its a toss up of life of crime or scholarship... And lately the Scholarship aspect has panned out as crime. The lastest transfer to Big Red hasn't done much either except eliminate most of his friends. Whether he came to you as a recruit or under his own freewill will be debated for a long time... But what really matters is this kid came with a dream and thought it was supposed to be served to him on a golden plate. His career at Big Red would be speculated at "mediocre" at best and did nothing for him extra than if he had stayed where he was.

The message is plan and clear... Come to Big Red and help us feed our selfish need for success on the football field and get a state title... Unless you do for us, we won't do for you. We want you for open enrollment, then your own your own... Best teachers in the state that put football first...

Not so sure I am talking to the right people now... It seems you will pledge your support and do what it takes to get recognized, but once that happens you leave your loved in the shadows and back away. I remember the first post after the Branko busick ordeal by a Big Red poster... It stated: "He is from Weirton, not Big Red." That should explain everything...

I as a teacher for Steubenville city schools..........thinks this is a bunch of CRAP!
I do what I can for these kids above and beyond the call of duty!!!!!!!! As do the other teachers in our school system .

It starts at home first ! If the parents are NOT on board with their child's education and discipline then what can we as teachers do ? This is with every school district!
Branko, yes was from Weirton but went to school at Big Red.. He was a model student with his peers, strived for excellence. BUT when he left BR almost 2 years ago, his head was on the right track. What happens at WVU has no significance on BR. He choose the road he was on , not US or his past coaches. What was WVU doing ? turning their heads, shouldn't they know what their players are doing off season ? His parents ?
Branko's behavior didn't start in Weirton or BR. It started at college. As for the other kids going down that same road......... We as educator's can do what we can, but it still starts at home.

I will not comment anymore on the kids in "steubenville". I think it is so childish and small minded of people to blame everyone but where it actually lays. You do not know what we as educators or coaches do with these kids. You only know what you hear by word of mouth.( people that have no idea ).
We have a great school system . Good teachers and coaches. We do care about our kids and what they do with their lives. ON and OFF the field. I go home at the end of my day and sometimes I shake my head at these kids. But if they don't want help what can you do? we push and push. But if you push to much then all you get is a pissed off kid, who then doesn't want any help.

You know that saying? "takes a village to raise a child" ... meaning.....To be a productive well-rounded individual, humans need not just strong family values but must be part of a solid community.
We as the school and coaches try to to build a strong community with these kids, but like I said before they also need strong family values.

The last two posts would probably make up the largest two books in the Big Red school library!
