As an outsider looking in, I'll agree that Brown is a "stubborn, clueless prick" but you can't knuckle under to EVERY player that whines and wants traded.

I think this is the first thing mike brown has done right. He should be applauded. Athletes get what they want too often.

He shoulda have tried to trade him to a team that is almost as worse of as the bengals.

I imagine he still is under the rights of the bengals until his deal would run out so I dont think he can come back and sign with another team until that would end

That is, of course, if your goal is to put the athletes "in their place", rather than build the best possible team.

The problem is he's running a professional sports team that the #2 goal is to win (#1 is to make money).

Holding out to teach someone a lesson is adverse to both, which is why Mike Brown is, and always will be, an idiot.

Players, people, by nature, put themselves in situations where they want to be happy. Most NFL players may not see their situation as "ideal", but I'd venture to say that very few, if any, would threaten to boycott being paid and stop playing the game they are insanely good at to "prove a point." Therefore, even if the Bengals catered to Palmer and traded him, I doubt others would all threaten to retire just because it worked for him.

This whole situation is more of an indicator just how deep and messed up the Cincinnati Bengals are. It goes back to things before Carson Palmer, he's just the latest pawn in the crazy game.

Very few players on the team have similar leverage. The slippery slope argument is weak sauce.

I think that there is a time and a place for an owner to refuse to trade a guy in this instance.

I dont think this is the time or place though. CP is on the downside of his career. To be quite honest, this team is gonna stink with or without him. Two years ago was a fluke where the running game was their focal point on offense and that is how they made their hay. That doesnt happen much in the NFL nowadays. Alos, on defense they led hte world in INT's. True, itt takes talent and such to do that but I think they were very fortunate. Tipped balls went their way, errant throws instead of finding the ground foiund the defenders. It was the perfect storm of a football team.

Mikey Boy needs to do what is the best for the future of this franchise. An aging, over the hill QB wants out. He probably still has some value so trade him and get draft picks to rebuild your franchise. Can it open a slipperly slope? Maybe, but doubtful. If CP was younger, in his prime, and the bengals had a contendingteam with him, then before it got to this point you do whatever it takes to keep him. You call his bluff to retire because you need him to win. Bengals wont do well with, or without him.

Trade him, get some picks. These kinds of demands do not happen often. If a player wants out that badly then you feel him out to see how serious he is. Publicly say you wont trade him, to his agent say you will not trade him, but loook for suitors.

I cannot imagine how much $$$ alot of the guys blow.

A guy who got drafted this year said he knwos of some other players who got drafted with him who have already spent pretty much everything they can realistically make in their first year. Alot of dingleberries out there.

I haven't been following offseason stuff as closely as others, but I thought there was a worry that players would unretire just because with the latest agreement....players are entitled to lifetime medical coverage. If this is true, I can't picture anyone retiring this year just so they can be covered for life.

Brown should probably trade him, but I have to admit, the spiteful part of me loves this.

Good riddance. Palmer was one of the main issues with our team last year. Mike Brown wasn't throwing into double and triple coverage

I get what you are saying. Part of ya wants to say Phuck you CP....retire and want to applaud Mikey Boy, but on the other hand........he does not look like he will back down so why not get some draft picks from it?
