Any OC suggestions of fun/cool things to do in San Francisco? We're planning a week-long trip to California this Fall and we are thinking of spending a day in San Francisco (hotel is about 2 hours away).

Definitely wanna check out the Golden Gate bridge and we'll probably check out a trolly ride just to say we did it. It would be cool to find a micro brewery/cafe for lunch. Gonna need to find something to do for dinner too. There aren't any Giants or Niner's games the week we are going.

Is there anything a heterosexual couple can do in San Francisco? :p Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The Golden Gate Bridge, which you mentioned
Alcatraz
Ghiridelli
(no clue how its spelled)
Trolly
Lombard Street
(The Crooked Road)
Chinatown (Oldest Chinatown in USA I think)
Haight-Ashbury (Hippie Hill)...basically where everyone met up during "the summer of love" etc. Not necessarily all that cool to spend much time. But if you are near by, its cool to see where everything started the movement. It is also where Charles Manson was able to get everyone to follow his retarded ass.

If you are into military history, there is an old fort at the base of one end of the Golden Gate bridge.

Went there when I was 15, spent pretty much the entire day there. You can walk around the top of it. The time of day were there, the fog rolled in, pretty much took over the entire fort, was pretty cool.

If you have some coin, Fleur de Lys is supposed to be one of America's top restaurants, but be prepared to spend some cash. It is definitely in my top 3 of places I plan to eat at eventually.

If you are looking for solid dinners but less expensive than that, try Maya (high-end Mexican/fusion) or Town Hall (good vibe, solid food).

There is this killer (cheap) burrito place in the Mission called Papalote that offers the famous "Triple Threat Burrito" which is awesome. Bobby Flay did a burrito throwdown here on the Food Network.

As for touristy stuff, Laley had some great suggestions. Haight-Asbury is actually quite cool, lots of old-school pubs which I assume bring older folks back to the 70s vibe.

Walk up and down Market Street, lots of shops and bars there, and check out the Enbarcadero. And if you have a day, hit Napa/Sonoma, awesome vine and gorgeous part of the country (you can do a day trip, but I would spend the night if you could).

If you're a food junkie, the Saturday morning farmer's market at the Ferry Building is unbelievable.

Its an AWESOME city. You should try to make it back for an actual vacation. I could give you Steve Young, Jerry Rice and Steve Jobs street name in Palo Alto. You might run into them, really nice people.
