Heard this morning that Penn is still having some trouble on some issues. They didn't really go in to detail though.

Penn has a pending lawsuit against the city over annexation into Columbus and the use of city water and sewage. They also have a gentle mans agreement that their land near the Arena must sell for a certain price. Yesterday was the deadline for an agreement and they couldn't come to one, therefore, they will go to court and potentially may not build.

Penn also asked the Dispatch to agree to not interfere with their business, and the Dispatch refused.

Basically Penn has bent over backwards and Wolfe and the Dispatch are trying to stick it to them.

Leave it to the dispatch to screw a good thing over.....

Oh well, I guess Ill just go to Wheeling or Indiana for a while longer. How something can be this big of a cluster is beyond me.

its a cluster because people dont actually look at what casinos can bring to the arena (ie. money and tourists). People just believe it will lead to degenerate gamblers and increased crime. I have friends who are only 26 who have actually said it will only bring crime to the area and when I ask them if they have been to a casino before their answer is always no. These friends are also the same ones who think the park in downtown columbus was a great idea and worth every penny.

What the hell more does the city want. They got the casino moved(which was a terrible idea). Let them build the damn thing, and hopefully revitalize the west end.

It will keep the money in Ohio, that's what all these casinos are about. There are casinos close to Cincinnati and Cleveland too. Nobody goes to Windsor anymore though.

They didn't, the people of the state did. The state needs to step in and make sure both sides work this out.

They want the tax revenue. Annexed it out of downtown, but they still want Penn to pay the taxes to the city.

The Dispatch says they are involved involved because they claim they gave money to the campaign for Penn with an agreement that they will be annexed.

They had a deal hammered out (annex, Columbus puts like $15M into cleaning the site, all outstanding suits dropped), but it was contingent upon selling the old location by today, which didn't happen.

The mayor and the city are morons. But for the Dispatch to get in the middle of it is disgusting. They gave money to the campaign to have it moved because they didn't want it in the Arena district, a location they have an ownership stake in. The campaign money was only to protect it's own investments.

Just got back from Windsor and go 4 or 5 times a year. Nicer there than any casino around here that I've been to.

Penn National has announced that an agreement in principle has been reached to end the lawsuit and the casino is on track to open in late 2012.
