Anyone see this? Just watched it last night. It's a must see movie for anyone from Ohio, especially NE Ohio.

I read the book about 8-9 years ago. They took a few creative liberties w the story, iirc, but thats to be expected. The biggest surprise for me was how many known "mob actors" were cast in this movie. I guess it really was a big deal as Danny Greene really did cripple the american mafia as it existed up unitl the 1970s.

Im connected somewhat to a character in the movie, but I'll explain that later. I first want to see what people thought of the movie and add two points: 1) had I not read the book, I would have been lost with all the local names tossed around and 2) the hour+ documentary in the special features was almost as good as the movie as it tied everything together and used lots of actual vintage footage w current interviews of the people involved, those who were still alive or not in jail.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and I liked it. Wasn't the best crime movie since Goodfellas like some critic said though.

He might have said that because of the huge ramifications to the mafia because of the Danny Greene war, not sure. The Farrati guy who ultimately killed DG was to be given half of the Youngstown/Warren gambling rackets for the hit. Being from Warren, I thought that was pretty cool. The book actually had a whole chapter on Warren and Cherries restaurant that was a mob meeting place where we used to eat a lot when I was a kid.

Haven't seen it yet but really want to. Everyone I know who has seen it liked it.

I have been waiting for this to come out ever since I heard the movie was being made. I have not however had time to see it. I can't wait though.

Ok I'm connected in two ways sorta. A good friends car was stolen from the Eastwood mall that was used in the hit on Biondillo. As I recall, the mob used two stolen cars of guys who followed Biondillo on his usual route to work and one parked at a stop sign and when he stopped behind it the other pulled in behind him and they got out and blasted him with shotguns.

The other connection I mentioned in my first post is that I've been a lifelong friend of James "White" Licavoli's grandson. He grew up on my street in Warren. We always knew what his grandfather did, as did everyone in the neighborhood, but it was never discussed openly. Licavoli died in jail in the early 80s, iirc.

Yep, one blocked the street pretending to be a disabled vehicle, the other came from behind.


And that was when law enforcement and most of the general public realized that the Youngstown Mob as they knew it no longer existed......they'd resorted to using black drug dealers to do the "work" that no one else was willing or able to do.
