Raising the bridge would cost the city tens of millions of dollars, and Yoakum told NBC4 it wouldn’t be raising the bridge because of the cost.
"We hear it all the time … either raise the bridge or you lower the roadway. Raising the bridge would be tens of millions of dollars. Lowering the roadway would be equally expensive," Yoakum said.
In the past, the city has installed more signs and raised the fine for nonclearance to $1,000.
