Just more proof that ESPN has it out for the premier program in the country.

They sued Texas last year too, a month and $300 million dollar deal later, the Longhorn Network is born.

One of the media outlets had to file a lawsuit to force OSU's hand and it certainly wasn't going to be anyone local.

Dispatch has been talking with Dewine to get the records released.

The dispatch was the first to send an official letter. Jackass

ESPN doesn't need the information released, they can just make some more shit up with no facts to back it up like they have been doing all along (car deals, Pryor getting $40,000 for autographs)

Really? The Dispatch asked Dewine to do something is much different than filing a lawsuit dumbass.

Filing a complaint with the AG is like filing a lawsuit in a sense. The AG will investigate and if they feel OSU is wrong, they will file suit The State of Ohio Vs
Basically it's like asking the AG to take control of the situation on your behalf

I understand the difference. Basically OSU wanted to handle it more delicately and ESPN cut out the middle man.

OSU is either 100% right in withholding the records or 100% wrong. I dont see there being anything that can make this a misunderstanding. They better hope that they are right or this could be seen as another cover up.
Pryor was a student at the time of the communications, so they could be right...but...if they do not pertain to a students protected rights (grades and so on) then they are probably going to lose this.
And I thought it was Yahoo and SI, not ESPN who sprung the stories about OSU first.
Also...the car deals and Pryor autograph money has not been cleared yet. The Ohio BMV just said that there was nothing that broke their rules, the NCAA has yet to say anything about it.

How did OSU want to handle it more delicately? By refusing to release anything?

The major issue with this argument is that Tress was emailing with Sarniak. So if it was covered under the confidentiality thing, it was violated when he emailed Sarmiak.

I don't think these emails will have an impact on the NCAA investigation. I would certainly hope that OSU provided every email to and from Tressel during the timeframe in question to the NCAA during the investigation. In other words, I would bet that the NCAA already has reviewed all the pertinent emails that ESPN is requesting.

I would bet this as well. The NCAA no doubt has privileges regarding student records that don't exist for media or the general public.
Those of you making a big deal out of this are the same ones hoping and praying for more to be found -- because nothing contained in the formal allegations to this point appear to be leading to severe sanctions.

You could be right that the NCAA has them, but the media does not.
I don't really think anyone is making a big deal about it though.

Agree with this. Everything would have been turned in to the NCAA.

hopefully there isn't anything in the emails too damning and they are really withholding them to protect student rights not trying to cover something else up.

Clearly ESPN is making a big deal out of it as well as the Dispatch.

Agree. I would think that the NCAA would already have this information if it did exist. Also, if there was more that OSU is hiding, why self report the emails in the first place?? If you're going to cover something up, don't half ass it by trotting out the Tressel/Cicero email when something bigger could be found.
