It will be fun to watch this staff during for next year or two. Once the bowl suspension is lifted it will be interesting to see who will take over.

unfortunately I think it'll only be a year..in Cbus they're already calling Fickell the "Ron Zook of OSU", i.e. waiting for Urban Meyer to arrive

I love that OSU was able to get Vrabel, but only under the current situations. I wonder how motivated he will be. This is a guy with millions in the bank, made a couple million last year, loves to golf and has a family. And now he's taking a job where he will be working all day, recruiting and for what, $100k?
Obviously he's motivated and this is a rhetorical question, but if I were in his shoes I'd be doing something different.

I think he's doing it for one reason only, and its for his love of the Buckeyes...he won't be doing it long term...he's here to help Fickel land this job...

You don't make it as far as Vrabel had unless you love football. And you don't stop loving something, especially football. He's got a GREAT gig going for him. All of that prep he used to put in as a professional player he will now simply put in as a coach. To be honest, not that much has changed, especially from his New England days because those guys are very cerebral with their business.
Any way you slice it, this is a great addition to Ohio State. I'm glad to see it happen.
PS -- I hope he is one of the guys who teachers the football class this fall.

Not negative at all. Actually it's that much more impressive that Fickel could get him on staff because it's not something that you would expect of someone with his resume.

A lot of former NFL guys don't start that high in the coaching ranks to be honest. Vrabel has a passion for coaching and Ohio State. I think the opening is just an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

Yes....because that "cerebral" approach from the Patriots really translated well to the college game for Charlie Weis.
I'm sure Vrabel will bring enthusiasm and knowledge with him to OSU as a younger guy (relatively speaking) who just finished playing ball......I just thought what you said was funny as I (and quite a few other ND fans I've talked to) thought that Weis was too business-like in his approach at the college level and that was one of his shortcomings.

Mike Vrabel is a great addition to a staff in desperate need of something positive to talk about right now. He is nothing like Front Butt Chuck and the only commonality is they were both once associated with the Pats. Mike's enthusiasm and credibility will play out well with players and recruits. The biggest challenge to this entire team is replacing 7 starters on Defense...everyone keeps yammering about the QB, WR & RB situations, but those defensive holes would have been there whether Jimmy The Liar was there or not.

With all of his coaching experience, this is a great hire. He will instantly make the player/coach transition.

This has been in the works for awhile. Also, most NFLers don't start this high in the ranks because their best friends from college aren't interim coaches at their alma mater.
It's not like he'll be asked to do X's and O's. Belichick raves about him. It won't do us any harm, he'll be big with the players.
