Heard about this on the radio today. Did a quick google search and found a Dayton article that mentions the same issue. Is this a good thing? Just like us old enough to remember to speak nostalgic about drinking from garden hoses, kids in the future will tell their kids "I remember when I was a kid, they used to throw candy at a parade".

It's not been allowed at the Apple Festival Parade in Jackson for several years.

Nothing new, it's been discouraged in my hometown (Salem) for a good 15 years now. They prefer walkers beside the floats/near the curb to toss it or hand it, as opposed to winging it from the float itself.
It's stupid, but I just don't care enough to raise a fuss over it.

Raising a fuss won't matter. On the one hand it isn't that big of a deal, no one is physically hurt as a result, on the other hand it is evidence of the growing wussiness of America. Sometimes the grumpy old men are correct, you can't tell me it is better to be a kid in the U.S. now than it was a couple of so decades ago. The anti-septic environment has its negative qualities, and that includes teaching children independence and social behavior. I got into a FB argument with one of my best friends about this, back in the day open gym in the summer meant the coach would open up the gym, everyone was invited and the leaders (kids) instructed how it would work - now they have to sign up for open gym, non-students are strictly forbidden an certain ages have their time periods (the days of 13 year olds playing with 18 years olds is over), and parents are encouraged to attend. Jesus on a tractor. Its as if our society has become one gigantic play date.

The common factor in all of this is our court systems and some judges and juries giving out incredibly unbelievable rulings in situations like this. People wouldnt scream lawsuit if they knew their idea had no legs to stand on, but what was it 15 or so years ago a lady got rich by spilling hot coffee in her lap! I mean she ordered HOT coffee and was driving, did she not THINK something like this would happen? However, people now smell blood in the water and the sharks (lawyers) are feasting!

Our city changed it from throwing from moving vehicles to only walkers in the parade can throw it.

I blame soccer moms for all these stupid rules. Things like this, no dodgeball, etc. I notice, these bullshit rules and lawsuits didn't start happening until soccer really started taking off in this country, and we all know noone flops better than a soccer player.

That's the main reason that I hear for no more throwing candy from a vehicle.

It's sad that we look to solve problems today by first going to a legislative solution,

How in the hell do people find entertainment in a parade? I think that's the underlying issue here.

I agree...I don't understand how any adult could be interested in a parade.

As opposed to the pro-septic environment, which has plenty of positive qualities...

In my town we throw hand grenades from the floats in parades. All these other towns sound like a bunch of pussies.

I think most people understand the chosen definition: cold, impersonal, without interest, boring.
It has nothing to do with septic tanks.

LOL! Thankfully your rights are protected. The 2nd amendment protects our rights to bare arms. Sorry kids your right to bare candy is not specifically mentioned. You will have to settle for glocks and 9mm ammunition.dwccrew;821273 wrote:In my town we throw hand grenades from the floats in parades. All these other towns sound like a bunch of pussies.

Our town allowed candy to be thrown but did not allow water pistols to be shot from parade participants...go figure.
