2013 commit Austin Hatch is critical after a plane crash in which his father and stepmom were killed. As if that weren't enough, in 2003, Hatch's father was piloting another plane that crashed and killed Austin's mom, 11 year old brother, 5 year old sister and the family dog.

This kid has lost his entire family in 2 plane crashes in 8 years.

Word right now is 2 collapsed lungs, fractured skull and some bleeding in the brain. However, all signs are positive right now as far as the brain is concerned.

He also has other broken bones and was in surgery until 4 am. He is in an induced coma.

Prayers go out to him. If I was him, I wouldn't be able to step inside a plane again. Terribly terribly sad.

My father knew Austins father, Stephen personally. Very sad day for everyone involved. My dad has already driven back to our hometown (Ft Wayne) to be with friends and remaining family of the Hatches. This is such a terrible day, and on the heels of the 2003 accident. I cant imagine what Austin is going through. I still remember teaching him how to shoot a basketball when I was 19 and in college and Austin was 9. Safe to say, he has become a bit better than I ever was.

2/1,000,000..i'll take those odds. It's sad that it happened, but it shouldn't reaffirm anything other than it's a terrible incident.

What an absolutely awful story.

I also read that the plane crashed nose-first into a garage on a residential street. That's scary as hell.

this is terrible.

someone has to ask though, what caused these planes to crash? The same pilot crashing twice, those are pretty crazy odds.

I have no intent to defame the dead here, but if this guy crashed once (his fault) and killed most of his first family, why did he continue to fly?

Terrible story, but if my Dad killed my siblings and Mom in a plane crash once I am not flying with him again. Sorry.

Planes crashing is very rare. That's why it's big news when it happens. But what are the odds of it happening twice to a person's family? smh
