Boardman police seek help from the public in its investigation of the deaths.

Staff Report

BOARDMAN — The bodies of two Cardinal Mooney High School seniors were found at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Market Street in Boardman this morning.

Both male victims had gunshot wounds, police said.

The names of the victims – who were 17 and 18 —were not released by police. The victims were found in the cemetery at about 7:05 a.m. when an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle on the property.

Jack Nichols, chief of the Boardman Police Department, said the case is being investigated, and it could take weeks before a conclusion is made. Nichols said evidence, including gun shot residue, will determine whether the incident is ruled a homicide-suicide or a double suicide.

Other details were not made available.

Monday classes had been canceled because of Mooney’s state championship football victory Friday. But the school will open at 10 a.m. to students who wish to mourn their classmates. There is also a Mass in remembrance of the victims at 1 p.m. at the school

Nichols asked anyone with any information on the incident or those involved to contact the department at (330) 726-4144 and asked for Lt. Don Hawkins.

There is an article in the Columbus Dispatch this morning, with names.

Terrible to hear this. Police don't know if it was a double suicide or a homicide-suicide.

And this after the student from Davidson was hit by the train.

Prayers and thoughts from Massillon! From what was said on the other thread..they aren't on the football..but they were on the baseball team. Don't know if that's accurate or not though. Such a shame. These 2, the Davidson kid, and the 2 from Dublin Scioto I believe it was as well. Unreal.

The two young men were both baseball players. One of them also played soccer. Both were wonderful kids from extremely beautiful families. This tragedy puts everything back into perspective.

apparently the one mother reported the kid missing about 11pm saturday night when a bunch of his friends called her with a text message from the kid saying goodbye and that he couldn't take the depression anymore.

What an awful situation.

Hard to make sense of something like this but then we weren't in these two students situations. I just hope that he didn't tell anyone what he was planning and they didn't report it. They'd have to live with that the rest of their lives.
