So I've decided I am getting my own place in the near future and I do not plan on getting cable. I rarely watch TV, besides sports, and when I do its usually movies or blocks of TV shows I've DVR'd.

I'm thinking about going with a non cable option....Roku, AppleTV, GoogleTV, etc. The only one I have first hand experience with is Apple TV and I liked what I saw. Just looking for opinions. My friend has a Roku and swears by it.

Because of my addiction to Sports I must have cable and my sports packages!

Yeah thats the only real downside, but I can manage. I go to the bar most of the time to watch OSU/Pittsburgh anyway.

OSU is pretty much on either ESPN, ABC, or Big10 so I prefer to catch them at home, compared to what I spend at the bar watching the games every week it's cheaper for cable LOL. We just did get netflix streaming so I put our Ipad on the TV for movies through there and just rent them through Itunes to watch instead of renting if they are not available through netflex streaming or if I want them in HD.

We have a Roku, can't really comment on the other options. We are very happy with our Roku + basic cable ($14) package combo....No plans on changing what we are doing, and in the 2.5 years we've been on our own, I estimate we've saved $2,000+ in cable bills...

We also have an Xbox 360 and a PS3, both of which work awesome for Hulu Plus and Netflix....So that's another option.....

Cutting cost is my main reason for considering this. My rent is going to increase significantly so I think no cable is the best move. For now it looks like the Roku box is in the lead, but I've also been reading up on WD TV live.
