Its pretty much the thing I'm most ashamed of in life, that I haven't seen the godfather movies. Got some free time without cable or internet so I'm gonna finally watch em. Here's to nothing.

agreed, thinkthickbigred. don't go into the third expecting it to be one of the greatest movies of all time, which are what the first two are. go into it hoping for a good movie, and you will get one.

Part II, the single greatest movie Ive ever seen. The plot flipping is a thing of beauty.

You do. However, I think you would like them. Shit, my mom like the first 2 and hates mob/gangster movies.

Really dig 1 and 2 was alright but I didn't think it was as good as the 1st. Never watched all of 3. I hear it shouldn't be in the same series as the first 2 though.

Oh I know I would. I just don't own them and have never taken the time to rent them.

The rise of Vito Corleone is probably my favorite "plot" line of any movie made. It was so well done.

Just curious, what didnt you like about 2?

I liked it. I just found the 1st to be better. Maybe I will give it another look and see if my opinion changes.

I know plenty of people who liked 1 more than 2, so that is no surprise. Just wondered why you said it was "alright" and Im probably looking to much into the word lol.

Gotcha. Was just curious if it was the flipping between times, or something in particular, etc.

I think I'd say as of now I like part I better too. Have only seen part II a couple times, and those movies are the type that you pick up on things the more you watch them, especially part II with the plot flipping.

I just watched them for the first time a few months ago. I rented all 3 one day and just went to town (It was a snow day). Like everyone else said, 1-2 are amazing. 3 is still alright, but was definitely not as good. I'd say the plot jumping in part 2 was probably my favorite part as well; that and just watching Michael transform in the 1st one. Obviously that was the point of the 1st one, but it was just so well done.

Hearing that trumpet.... iconic.

To quote Tom Hanks in the movie "You Got Mail" (yes, I know; but my wife made me watch it):

The Godfather is the I Ching. The Godfather is the sum of all wisdom. The Godfather is the answer to any question. What should I pack for my summer vacation? 'Leave the gun, take the cannoli.' What day of the week is it? 'Maunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday.' And the answer to your question is 'Go to the mattresses.' You're at war. 'It's not personal, it's business. It's not personal it's business.' Recite that to yourself every time you feel you're losing your nerve. I know you worry about being brave, this is your chance. Fight. Fight to the death.
