It was brought to my attention that there was some interest in what I had to say. Yes this is SQ/The Boss.
First of all, let me start by saying that I have not read any of the conversation here surrounding the Finals. So I have no response to anything anyone has said. One thing that I know has probably been talked about is my self ban. Basically, I'm done with this site. I don't have time for it anymore and basically, I can't win here. Doesn't matter what I say, I'll never have credibility here again BECAUSE I'm still a LeBron fan. Cite the "collapse thread" all you want, it's because I'm a LeBron fan. I will fully admit, the self ban was literally just to rile everyone up and I'm sure it was talked about--and my intention was to come back on after the Finals was over at start a thread that literally contained nothing but laughter. Just "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"x100. It obviously didn't work out that way.
I must say, before I talk about what happened, I was harder on LeBron than anyone during this series. If any of you could have been watching the games with me, you would have seen it. He was garbage, plain and simple. There were factors that contributed that I'll get into later, but the bottom line is that he was trash.
One thing I want to address before we get into the results of the games, is the mocking Dirk thing. One big reason I want to mention this is because I HATE the media. Not just the sports media, all media and I have for a long time. And I'm smart enough to know that this was a big topic on this site. LeBron and Wade did NOT mock Dirk. They mocked the media, and rightfully so. The part that pisses me off is that they get a response from Dirk and paste that up all over the place. And then they get a response to the reaction from Wade and he says EXACTLY what I assumed they meant when I first heard what they did. But the media omits that, because they clearly don't want to make themselves look bad. But this provided a REALLY good example of the media bullshit that I'll talk about later in this post, if I remember.
Now, on to the basketball.
First and foremost. MAJOR props to Dallas. They won the series, the Heat did not lose it. They flat out BEAT Miami. I do believe that the better team wins most of the time, and I do believe that Dallas was the better team. Miami has the talent, but they have no discipline and no offense. The Mavs had the right ingredients to take down the Heat, AND they executed to near perfection. Carlisle coached circles around Spo. Dirk played well and his teammates stepped up and played great basketball.
Now onto the Heat. Great season. I said prior to the start of the season that as a Heat fan, a Big 3 fan, a LeBron fan, I did not expect a title in year 1 regardless of their goals. I said I would pick them to win, because I won't pick against my team when I think they're good enough, but I didn't expect them to win it all. I thought it would take a year and I still think that they will be the champs next season. BUT, a lot of things have to change. I'm not saying they need to overreact and make big roster moves, that would be a big mistake. But they need to do something. Spo has to go. They need a coach that commands respect. I don't even think Spo is a bad coach, but every game was like a replay--he did not have their attention. Their biggest change needs to be a PG. Let's face it, they have the Big 3/Haslem/Miller locked up for like 5 years--that's a better base than any other team in the league can build around for the next 5 years. But they need a consistent PG. They need a guy who they can trust to bring the ball up the floor, not turn it over and get the offense started. Nothing special, but Bibby sucks and Chalmers is too out of control. I think Chalmers can be good, but we'll see. And I just hit on maybe the most important point--they need an offense. Their offense is atrocious.
About LeBron: trash. I have no excuses for the lack of effort. I'll sound like a homer here, but I am a homer and most of you are haters so I'll get all kinds of shit for the next few comments. BUT, one thing that led to this: fatigue. Until LAST NIGHT the dude didn't come out of the 2nd half of a game since early in the Boston series. He was playing Wilt minutes. That takes a toll, no matter who you are. Another thing: officiating. Read this line very carefully: it did not cost them the series and is not an excuse for them losing the Finals. Got it? Dallas flat out beat them. But it played a part in why LeBron was not LeBron. I don't care what anyone says, I expect NONE of you haters to agree with me. But I'll still down with ANYONE who wants to objectively watch the tapes and I'll show you. First of all, his jumper was garbage. Aiming, not shooting. Scared to miss which causes him to miss--it's frustrating to watch. But to everyone who just wants him to drive it in and dunk it every time, you're a fool. Do you even watch the games? He had nowhere to go. Dallas would NOT let him beat them. Double teams, walls built. They sagged off and made him a shooter--problem is he couldn't get himself going because he couldn't get to the line. His teammates didn't help him too much either and that's the lack of offensive strategy. As a team they all passed on so many wide open looks. They didn't let him play his game, that's a big credit to Dallas--and they took what the refs gave them. But LeBron got HOSED by the officials. I really think that took him out of his game, that played a big part in making him passive and not looking for his shot. No one in the media will say this because it's just looked at as an excuse. But if they won't blow the whistle that changes how you have to play the game--it's not an excuse, it's a reason. Save the shit, I expect hardly any of you to agree. The reason is you're haters--you may think you're objective but you aren't. I'm a LeBron homer and I'm more objective than most of you. That's all that needs to be said about that.
I'm not giving him a pass, even as a fan of his. No matter what it is, you try. If it's the officials, you put your fucking head down and you MAKE them blow the whistle or foul you out. And you absolutely DO NOT let it dictate how you play defense...and he did. He was awful, as bad as I've seen him.
Now let me address the media and the fan base in general. The fact that there is this much backlash/hate speaks to how great LeBron is. First of all, can the Jordan comparisons stop? Personally, I never liked those. He isn't Jordan, he's LeBron. He isn't Magic, he isn't anyone else. He is his own player. But let's talk about the BULLSHIT double standards that go on with the media and generate a lot of the bullshit that people spew about LeBron. First of all, he is under more pressure and a bigger microscope than any professional athlete in history. He is the first to have to go through this type of scrutiny in the Facebook, Twitter, mega media world. You want to compare him to Jordan? What did Jordan do during his most scrutinized moment? Under maybe a TENTH of the pressure in the mid-90's that a guy his today in 2011, he RETIRED. He didn't shrink in the 4th, he didn't play like trash--he flat out quit. He went and played baseball.
Need more? LeBron is trash. But "Tragic" Johnson isn't. You know why? Because hindsight is 20/20. He won rings in the end, the "Tragic" nickname went away. If you need to go look at how bad guys like Bird and Magic played at certain points in their career, then look it up. Kobe was statistically worse than LeBron through his for 10 Finals games. But he's a great champion. He didn't ride Shaq's coat tails, but LeBron is Robin. Miami says they want to win titles in the preseason. They express that goal to their fans. They're arrogant, as if they're supposed to have a goal other than championship. But Dallas posts pictures of the trophy in their lockers, they have the same goal, but they aren't arrogant. LeBron is an arrogant prick for saying they want to win multiple rings. But Jason Terry has balls of steel for getting the trophy tattooed on him. LeBron plays like shit, D-Wade plays worse--headline: LeBron is a bum. LeBron plays like shit, D-Wade plays great--headline: LeBron really is Robin. Dirk plays like shit, Barea and Terry win the game for the Mavs--headline: Dirk, MVP!
The biggest issue that I have with the media is that so many of you base your whole discussion around what is said by this analyst or that one, this writer or that one, rarely using your own brain to think for yourself. You ALLOW them to control the conversation, and really, they're just trying to "sell papers". The double standards with the Heat are the WORST I've ever seen. Sports media RIGHT NOW is the epitome of how terrible the media in our country has become. I miss the days when I could turn on Sportscenter, see the top 10 and a few scores and that was it. Now all of a sudden they turn into a soap box for some dude with no credibility to spout his mouth off. And since he was on ESPN the vast majority of our stupid populous thinks that what he says is gold. It's mind blowing.
