Not that I agree with it, because I don't, but this is not a draft in the historical sense of the term.
It would be a civilian national service. They wouldn't be getting shipped overseas, from what I understand of it.
However, no one should be forced to serve in anything in this country. That is what this country is about, the ability to make your own choices as long as it doesn't effect or harm others.

Not going to happen.
Rahm Emmanuel may think it's a great idea (and President Obama may as well), but there is no way in hell any Congressman (or woman) would get behind this legislation. It would be political suicide.
AND there is no doubt it would have to be legislation - Obama would cost himself the 2012 election if he tried to enforce it through a Presidential order or some other circumvention of the legislative branch of government.
If he is going to blow a second term, I guarantee he goes for something much bigger (health care, climate change) than a back door draft.

So far from actually happening it isn't even worth thinking about.

Is everything a President (not just Obama) discusses with his advisors/cabinet/staff available to the public?
That doesn't mean that things aren't being discussed. It doesn't mean that initial/introductory speeches aren't being drafted.
Personally, I think if Obama really wanted to "try" and implement something like this, he missed the boat = during his honeymoon period. It's too late for him to try shenanigans of this type now. He's already neck-deep in it.

Pretty much. Leaks, reports, and general interviews over time reveal what goes on inside the WH and Oval Office. It is not immediate knowledge, but over time we can get a picture of things.CenterBHSFan wrote:ptown_trojans_1 wrote: *Yawn*

Obama already talked about doing this during the campaign. A domestic security force which needs to be "as well armed and funded as the military."
Hey, at least he's learning from history, right?

I just don't think that when Obama said that, he really thought about what a beast a group like that can grow into. Those kinds of groups can get out of hand quickly.

I doubt that will come to fruition, and the people should be up in arms if they try to force that on them.

And the people who protest would be put down and made to look like they're the crazies in the mainstream press who would do the administration's beck and call. Remember, if you protest about the size of the government, you're the true extremist.

No, you made yourself look like a "crazy" by using the Nazi propaganda poster in reference to Obama/Obama's policies. The Equalizer wrote: And the people who protest would be put down and made to look like they're the crazies in the mainstream press who would do the administration's beck and call. Well maybe you're okay with a civilian para military organization being set up which is as well funded and armed as the pentagon, I'm not. But I do know who can be signed up as the first two commanders for Obama's army....

why, we can use these fine gentlemen from the Black Panthers. They already have expertise in crowd control as seen when they were "protecting" the Philadelphia polling place in 2008. Of course they're in the clear too since the Obama Justice Dept decided not to investigate any voter intimidation charges. It seems like a perfect solution, don't you think?

I fail to see your point. Are you comparing Emmanuel's idea to the Black Panther's? A sanctioned, government trained para militia to the Black Panthers? LOL, hahahahaha

No, I'm saying those are some of the types who will be included in obama's security force. A few of his advisors are already on record as viewing early prison release in order to partake in "community service" as a big issue for social justice.
