I'd say 25% of the people would.

Thing of it is, it seems that the lower the amount involved, the more piss and vinegar they throw at you. When I did my time in customer service for a health insurer, the callers that would raise the most hell would be the ones with a $5 increase in their copays. On the other hand, someone who just had a $50,000 hospital stay denied because their employer forgot to update their eligibility when they went on medical leave would typically be VERY cooperative.

and it was a legit charge because it was a percentage based charge.
It wasnt even a social call to his sister across the hall....he come in...complained about it and with a straight face said "I know its only a penny but that adds up over time."

Yes.....a penny adds up. 12 cents a year. a buck twenty over 10 years.

I think the next time i want to buy a car I am gonna go to his place...and nag nag nag nag about every nickel and dime to get the cost down.
"waht do I see here....a BUG on the car. Well...Take 50 bucks off the car for that. Oh wait...what is this......a dirt speck on the tire....thats another 20 bucks".

A penny adds up. I would have given him a quarter and said, "There, that ought to tide you over for the next 4+ years."

I might dispute a penny on principle. But not drive to do so.

Isn't this just as asinine as driving more than a mile just to save a few pennies on gas?

I argue w/ ppl all the time about this. They don't understand it's not worth driving across town because it's $.05 cheaper. You'd have to get 20 gallon just to save $1.00. Somehow they think they're really stickin' to the place w/ the higher price by doing it.

agreed
I will price check but usually its on a normal route. I know what stations are usually cheaper and fill up when need be at one of teh cheaper places.

This weekend I got into an argument with m y wife about this. A price checker had gas 7 cents cheaper than the place on the way. So we drove 10 miles round trip to save 70 cents on the ten gallons.

I get 25 mpg and got gas at 3.73 instead of the 3.80. So, at 3.73 I pay 6.7 miles on a dollar of gas. I drove 10 miles so I paid over a dollar in gas to save 70 cents.

Did not make sense.

but I was wrong..of course.

If I'm ever in the car with my father he is like this.
I usually pull a dime or quarter out of my pocket, hand it to him, and tell him that the discrepancy is covered and I am going wherever I want.

So, I have a question about that. How much of a difference in gas does there have to be before you'll drive say across town? 10 cents, 20 maybe 30?

tk.....figure out how many MPG your vehicle gets. Then figure out how many miles you pay per DOLLAR of gas. For instance if you get 28 MPG and gas is 4/gal then you drive 7 miles per dollar of gas.

If the gas is 20 cents cheaper per gallon, and lets say you will get 10 gallon of gas then you save 2 bucks. Two bucks is 14 miles of driving.
Of course that all fluctuates with the price of gas. Right now for instance the local station is $3.80. That means i would could drive just over 7.37 miles per dollar spent. So if I am gonna save 20 cents per gallon and get around 10 gallons I save 2 bucks. 2 bucks would be 14.75 miles.

So...in the end......it really doesnt make a ton of difference to drive around looking for better prices or driving more than 10 miles if you have a normal sized car. I dont go looking for deals but I will fill up when I see the prices cheaper
