Reds continue 9 game homestand after taking 2 of 3 from the Brewers, with the 1st of 3 with the Dodgers. Arroyo needs to turn it around after a disaster of a month of May as his ERA went up over 2 runs in May and 0 wins and 3 losses by Bronson. Reds were 1-5 in his 6 May starts. Hopefully Bruce and Votto will get some offensive help from the rest of the lineup as they went 14-15 in May even with the outstanding performance of Jay Bruce. Phillips ,Stubbs, and Rolen need to pick up the pace.
One series at a time 2 of 3 again against the Dodgers would be nice , 3 of 3 would be nicer:)

The Reds usually suck at GABP against the Dodgers, but the Dodgers really stink. They have one of the worst offenses in baseball, but of course, it will probably come alive in GABP. I'm scared the most of Rafael Furcal. The guy is a Reds' killer who enters the series hitting .215. I'm guessing he's at .230 or better when it's over and adds at least 2 HR's and 4 RBI's.

Unfortunately for the Reds, their hitters better be ready. They are at a pitching disadvantage in every game in the series. Arroyo has been brutal and he's starting the series off...hopefully, the RIGHT way.

Arroyo def needs to have a good start. They cannot keep running him out there if he puts more starts in like he did last month. I know he is a guy who doesnt miss starts, but mono, his back,...if he needs to heal up he needs to sit. If he cannot get the job done something needs to be done.

Agreed. He's been as or worse than Volquez and Volquez got ridiculed to no end by almost everyone.

The difference is Volquez is walking everyone and their grandmother's.

Arroyo is just plain getting hit.

Arroyo 5.74 ERA
Volquez 6.35 ERA.

Seven times Volquez pitched less than 6 innings.
Three times Arroyo pitched less than 6 innings and he has more starts.

6 times arroyo has givenup 3 ER or less.
6 times volquez has allowed 3 ER or less. 1 time he threw only 4 IP and 1 time he threw 5 IP in given up those 3 runs or less.

A guy like Volquez frustrates the fuck out of fans. When you walk and walk and walk and then hit a guy and walk and walk that really gets the ire of teammates and fans.
WHen you get hit...well....you get hit..and are not as frustrating if you ask me.

This might be a tough series for the Reds. Since 2006 the Dodgers have a 26-9 record vs Cincy.

Wish this was still one of the best rivalries in baseball.

Can't pass up the chance to head down to the park tonight, this is perfect weather.

Even with BA's injury/sickness I think if you put these pitchers on opposite teams they have near opposite numbers. This one's a tossup.

Yeah. My wife and I were planning on going to the movies tonight but I talked her into the game since the weather is so nice.

We stink versus the Dodgers....but those game in the past few years don't matter.

The last 2.7 weeks, the Reds have found numerous ways to not convert in innings when they have lead-off doubles or 2 on and 0 out. The 2nd tonight is another example as Bruce gets picked off 2B when Lewis bunts through a pitch.

Typical game the Dodgers usually play. Glad to see the Reds pitching get the best of them. I don't like the next two match-ups if the bats don't wake up however.

Brewers score 2 in the 9th to top Florida 6-5.
St. Louis whips up on the Scrubbies 6-1.

A very good game to watch. Pitching and defense came out on top.

with RISP: Reds 1/7, LA 0/5
scoring runners from 3rd and less than two out: Reds 0/0, LA 1/1

Both teams had their best scoring set-ups hurt badly by runners being picked off between 2nd and 3rd! Furcal going out with the injury on one of them hurt LA.

Pretty low score for a lovely June evening in GABP.

taht isnt terrible though.
The thing is this....at the ML level the hitters are less selective and swing at more bad pitches than at the big level (hence one of the reasons they are at AAA). I know at some levels of the minors the zone is a little more forgiving as well. So, I wonder if that 4 walks translates into 6 with more disciplined hitters and a tighter zone.

^^That's what I'm saying...4 walks against AAA players is like 6-7 against big leaguers

I say keep him down there until he can put together a 0-1 walk game.

He may never have a 0-1 walk game lol. The way i see it is we NEED him to make the playoffs. Keep him down for 2 or so more starts then get him back up. He'll get it together soon enough. Hopefully...

I agree on EV. He is not any better than he was with the Reds. Command is still an issue and he needs to get better before he returns, and it should be two outings with good command before he comes back, depending how the pitchers who start for the Reds are doing. Same thing for Chapman - he needs to have his command before being on the active roster, unless other relief pitchers are struggling.

That's what I am saying pretty much...keep him down there for another start or two and really try to make him see that he is not a good pitcher when he walks so many batters. What he doesn't understand is that if he puts the ball over the plate a) there is a very good chance the batters will miss because his stuff is phenomenal and b) even if they do put it in play, the Reds are one of the better defensive teams in the league and will take care of him. It's almost like he feels he has to strike every batter out.

I really don't like bringing him up for Tuesday's start in place of Leake. Leake, I believe, has thrown a quality start 6 of 8 times. He's not going to go 8 IP, 0 runs, but he doesn't need to, not with the Reds' offense.

I think Voquez hair, crooked and unbent bill of his cap is making him off balance and that i messing with his control!!!!!

Ya would like to see him do well at AAA before coming up but look at Leake...two terrible outtings and then good one when he came up

Also, Cueto wasnt pitching well in his rehab stints and has been gold since coming up.

I agree though...I would like to see Volquez go 6 + with 2-3 walks. Also what the club can look at is how deep is he going into the counts. We dont get to see that just in the box score. He may have 2 walks and we think he did well but was consistantly beehind in the count and that is not good facing major league hitters.

Also hitting his spots......that is a bone of contention with me when people only lok at the box score. It is mostly with releivers but also with starters too. I have seen pitchers consistantly miss spots in a game and get guys out just because that is the nature of baseball.....batters get themselves out, and then the next guy hits his spots, makes nasty pitches and they get a few hits and it looks like he pitched poorly but in reality he didnt.

When I watch games I like to look at those small things. If the catcher is away does he hit his spot? Or is he not close. If the catcher is seting up down an away, and the pither throws it up and in and gets s swing and a miss.....most will say good pitch, but I will say lucky becausee the ball went no where near where he wanted it to go.
