So who do you all use for your auto/home insurance?

I was with Nationwide when I lived with my parents, switched to Cincinnati Insurance when I moved out and my wife and I bought a home, it was the best quote we got at the time, and we knew people who were happy with Cincinnati.

We have 2 cars, homeowners insurance, an umbrella policy, and extra coverage for the wife's ring.

We just got quotes from a local agent, the best rate came from Erie Insurance Co., a savings of $650 per year on the above listed products if we make the change. The next best quote was still a $400 savings in comparison to Cincinnati --- exact same coverage (actually slightly better coverage...)

WTF?

Who do you all use? anyone use Erie insurance? I know they are a huge company, and I don't trust a small batch of 1 star online reviews by jaded consumers (which is all I can find).

We had Erie when we first bought our house. At first, we were pretty happy. Then the second year, we found out our rates were skyrocketing despite the fact that we never made a claim. We called and asked, and they told us that the introductory period had ended, and that was our new rate.

We now have Grange for our house and two cars. We also have an extra policy for my wife's ring. It saved us a ton of money every month, and my wife knows our agent and we're comfortable that the same thing won't happen.

By skyrocketing, how much are you talking?

We pay $1400 for 2 cars now, their quote is $950...I could live with a price hike after the first year if it were to go up to, say, $1100....

It went up by about $400/year. Which, IMO, was absurd.

Have grange and love them. Have the house two cars higher coverage on two barns and one garage do to contents and pay 1100. Made two claims in the past three years and has only gone up 150 a year.

The agency I contacted also quoted Grange, but it was slightly higher than Erie --- I'm not sure how much higher, though....

Agreed, and a lot of the complaints I see online are for being dropped after a claim with Erie...

We have Westfield and are very happy. We switched from Nationwide about 6 months ago. I pay around $120/mo. for both cars and home.

An umbrella policy will save youir ass if you or your kids ever cause a serious auto accident, or if your pit bull ever attacks the neightor's two-year-old.

There is no company that offers the best deal for every person. You have to get quotes from different companies online and see which companies can provide you with the best price: www.quotes-center.com

Yeah, pretty much.

I got it after an accident I was in involving a motorcycle (drunk motorcycle driver). Ended up working out OK in the end and I wasn't liable for anything, but the driver got a payout that was under my policy limits, so he got some cash....don't get me started....

For around $150 a year, it is something everyone should have, IMO.

Dont have home owners yet but will in a month. I do use Progressive for my commercial truck and Farmers for our two personal vehicles. Not sure who we are gonna use for the house. Will let Farmers give us a quote andthe Progressive is thru a private insurance company who uses others like Auto Owners etc so they will quote us too.

I know USAA is the highest rated. But only certain person can get it (military). Chubb is also high rated, but more for the rich.

The big companies that advertize are usually near the bottom.

Here is the next 5 homeowner and auto in alpha order.

American Family
Amica Mutual
Auto-Owners Insurance
Cincinnati Insurance
Erie Insurance

Usually you get the best deal by having all your lines of insurance with the same carrier (I am speaking auto and home). They give muli-line discounts.

I have Hanover Insurance, which we acquired through an independent agent. I am very happy with their rates and service.
