The worst part is he doesn't "HAVE" to accept the assistance. Pretty much, he should just be shunned and overcharged for everything.

Its simple. Any able bodied individual that receives monetary assistance from the government must donate some of their time to serve the community. For every dollar they receive in government assistance a small percentage of community service would be required in return. Those gaming the system and the lazy would fall by the wayside or man up. Hard working individuals that fell on hard times and need some temporary assistance would be more than willing to pitch in. These types of individuals hate taking handouts from anyone.

Talk about screwed up. I just bumped into this on drudge. Dude wants to play "baby" and his room mate "mommy". Both grown adults living off the taxpayers dime.

No shit.“Given that Mr. Thornton is able to determine what is appropriate attire and actions in public, drive himself to complete errands, design and custom-make baby furniture to support a 350-pound adult and run an Internet support group, it is possible that he has been improperly collecting disability benefits for a period of time,” Mr. Coburn wrote in a letter Monday to Inspector General Patrick P. O'Carroll Jr.

“You wanna test how damn serious I am about leaving this world, screw with my check that pays for this apartment and food. Try it. See how serious I am. I don’t care,” the California man said. “I have no problem killing myself. Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”

Not to take this to the politics forum, but as screwed up as this dude is for being so greedy, its simply a result of a welfare state. What he's doing isn't new. There isn't means/liquid asset testing for a lot of government programs. In most, if not all, states, there is nothing stopping a multi-millionaire that ran his company into the ground from filing for unemployment benefits. This is a particularly egregious situtation, but any time the government is handing out benefits it is difficult to keep anyone from getting what they think they are "entitled" to.
I'm not going to comment on the man-baby. Good grief.

CONCORD, N.H. -- A New Hampshire woman has spoken of her outrage after her 13-year-old daughter was suspended from school over a Facebook post in which said she wished Usama bin Laden killed her math teacher, WCVB-TV reported Wednesday.
Kimberly Dell'isola's daughter was suspended for five days from Rundlett Middle School in Concord after posting the comment about the Al Qaeda leader, who was shot dead when U.S. Navy SEALs stormed his Pakistan compound on May 2.
Dell'isola said she agreed that the post was offensive but thought the punishment was extreme and her daughter was entitled to free speech.
"In hindsight, she's mortified that she said that, but she's a 13-year-old kid," Dell'isola said.
Dell'isola said she usually monitors her daughter's use of the social networking website but found out about the post when she received a phone call from the school's principal. She said a parent of one of the girl's friends reported the comment.
The concerned mother was urging the school to remove her daughter from class and give her a private math tutor instead of the suspension.
"You are denying her an education based on something she did at home. That's my business, not your business," Dell'isola said.
Principal Tom Sica refused to comment due to student privacy rights.

This was the best part of her statement. Unless actions inside a student's home will cause direct harm to said student or the school, then the school has no business with it. I.e, if the student is getting abused at home or planning a shooting ala Columbine.
Not the same thing at all, but I love when other teachers come to us and say "Johnny skipped math class, you should make him run laps at practice today!" Um, no, I don't come tell you to give him a detention because he skipped practice. Same thing here. Let the parent discipline at home as they see fit and the school as they see fit at school. I remember getting in a fight with some kid in his front yard (about 6 blocks from school) and getting called down the the principal's office the next morning at school...GTFO.

^^^^^ Unfortunately the Supreme Court has upheld that minors do in fact have the right to free speech. With this freedom comes the consequences of using said speech. If you yourself posted on a public forum that you would like your boss to be murdered by bin laden, wouldnt you be called to the carpet to answer for your publicly made comments? As a matter of fact, an employee here was called to the boss when they made comments about her dislike for fellow employees on facebook. No physical or verbal threats were made, just crude language and this person was reprimanded and placed on probation. As much as I dont like the decision by the school district, a bit over the top. In school suspension or saturday school would have sufficed, they have the right to act on that comment. If you want to play the what if game, what if another student agreed and took upon themselves to carry out the act?

Free speech for students is and can be limited by schools, depending on the exact circumstances. Also, "free speech" isn't carte blanche to be a jerk--posting something like that about your math teacher is definitely on the line as to what a school can regulate. It certainly is something an employer would fire over.
